This is a very affordable and useful powerline networking adapter from TP-Link. It consists of two powerline ethernet devices - one that connects to a router, and another one that has two ethernet ports and a built in wireless access point.
When both are on the network the two port + wireless adapter will route all of its traffic through your home's electrical wiring to the other device. It works quite well and is an easy way to extend a network without having to run ethernet cable.
I have found that these devices are rarely a replacement for ethernet. In many ways they're better than wi-fi but I have never come close to getting the promised 500 megabit speed that this and other products tout. The reality for me is closer to 100 megabits and that is when the devices are connected to the same outlet.
In a real-world application the best I can pull down is about 30-40 megabits of sustained speed. That speed is more than adequate for web surfing but probably not as good for more demanding applications like Blu Ray media serving and other high bandwidth applications.
But on balance this is the best powerline kit I've reviewed. So if you're in the market for one this is certainly one worth considering.

The 500Mbps are for powerline-to-powerline... The LAN ports are 100Mbps and that's the maximum you can get from this device. A good thing is that you can have several multiple connections all running close to 100Mbps.
@williamlau7179

Now there are 1gbps Lan ports design. Cautious: the overhead is about 70-80%, means usable WiFi is about 25% speed of design

My question is, Is it taking the ethernet that it receives through the powerline and putting it out as wifi? or is it only providing the ethernet through the wall to the wifi plugin's ethernet ports and the wifi portion is only for repeating wifi that it in range?

I live in an old sandstone house. My laptop is in the basement at the back of the house and my router is upstairs. I could only get a very weak WiFi signal in the basement and powerline has been the answer. I am not technically minded but I had my TP Link adapters out of the box and working in a matter of minutes. It is recommended not plugging these adapters into a power strip so the (more expensive) pass through versions are especially useful as you can then plug your power strip into the adapter. No software or complicated configuration is required - it is literally plug and play and the adapters “find” one another quickly. If you want to create a fully secure network you can press the encryption buttons. I have personally not bothered as no one else has access to my house electricity. I now have a reliable broadband connection for my laptop thanks to powerline.

And if I may... a follow-up question. Is it faster to run a wire from the adapter at the far end to my media device, or do you get about the same speed as WiFi? And one more... Does this support 5Ghz? Sorry for all the questions. I'm a newby to powerline networking; just considering it for the first time.

Hi Lon. I always enjoy your videos. They are well-done and informative. One question for your clarification: I think I heard you say that a realistic speed for these is around 30mbs. You said it is not good for streaming video (primarily for me, NF & KZfaq). Netflix recommends 5mbs to stream their service in HD. So, what causes this to not work well for streaming. I ask because I'm getting real close to deciding on this, since running ethernet cable to my media center would be very difficult (no basement and no attic access to where I would want to drop a line down the wall). Thank you.

You have to try different outlets. I have one by my router in the basement , I have the other unit out in my barn which is about 100 ft away and is powered by an underground line in pipe. It works great ...I had a really hard time getting wireless out there. With powerline Ethernet, I've got a beater computer out there for looking up parts, iTunes, check email, etc. Different outlets even in the same room will give different results ...trial and error.

Great video but it did not work for my customer, I had him buy a TP link two unit model such as the one in this video.. after more than an hour trying to set-up at a distance with him on the phone I gave-up, it seem that power line models work on the same electrical circuit, but when on a different circuit it may not function, so it got returned to Amazon. I told my customer to go and buy the Netgear wall plug wifi mesh single extender that was in-stock at his local Staples store. It has worked perfectly, my customer has an IP phone that is far from the router and requires a wired connection. With the WPS setup I was able to guide him over the phone. Really great during Covid as he is 79.

Lon. Tv, no. Breakers in the Electrical wiring will cause delays for Ethernet in house. Most newer homes have 15amp breakers per plugins. I have 20 amp in my house because my father worked for the electric utility company locally, so he knew how to wire. You can upgrade the code if doing your own. Inspectors "have" to pass them because of the higher standard!!!

We also had alot of issues with weak wifi signal upstairs in the bedrooms so we bought such a TP-link kit with an AV600 extender in it. Plugging it in did work using the cables but to change the SSID and password on the wifi didn't go smooth at all. Our Proximus modem does have a WPS button and pushing it allows it's LED to blink but the AV600 didn't change anything, it kept it's TP-link SSID name and password. I tried to connect to it using my browser and it's IP-address but instead of getting the built-in webpage for configuration, I just got a screen that showed that there was an issue and I was probably connected to it on a guest network while I was connected to it directly using the supplied TCP network cable AND the wifi SSID and password that was listed on the device itself. And one solution was to install the Tether app on my phone to configure it. Tried that and the app found my AV600 device but couldn't login to it. Seems Tether didn't work with the AV600. Eventually I found an utility from TPLink that scans your network and lists all your TP-link devices. Upon clicking the device in that app, it opened my browser with the same IP as I tried manually before, but this time it displayed the proper webinterface page and allowed me to configure it and give it the same SSID as my modem so it's the same network essentially. This took me more than 2 hours to configure while it should only be a 5-minute job using the pair-buttons on the devices and the WPS button on the modem. And I also noticed some dropouts where the device looses connection for short periods of time but the wifi signal is alot better now and we can use the internet properly without waiting for 99+ hours to do a simple game-update on the PS5.

holy crap! nobody gets 800-900 mbps! lots of ppl are lucky to get 50mbps! i have a cheapo Belkin Router with a range of 300 and have 3 Alexa's and13 other devices connected plus a Desktop and tablet connected with NO Distance or Strength problems! i can go a 100 yds down the road and still have good signal strength and you cannot reach your bedroom? something is wrong with your setup! today i just added a Nexx Garage door controller and it is still kicking! TP Link is a great product! all my Alexis devices are TP Link!

My dilemma is that I am able to get a good Wi-Fi signal using my phone as a Hotspot. But I am not able to share the same network so that both computers/ tablets etc can talk to each other while I am using my hotspot. Would this device help me share the same network connection between my electronic devices?
