Thanks for this video Manuel - videos are always useful to confirm the steps. I just got the radio and now downloaded the 3D print files. Had to file and sand the prints to get the slide to fit well. I only had 3 single snap-in battery holders to use, so I had to sand down the length and width by about 0.5 mm. Added a 12v BMS and charger cable and it works great. I need to work on an antenna next, but will try it with a friends commercial setup first - Thanks again - well thought out item and accessories, great job. John VE7JEY

Good job. Detailed assembly instructions. Well done, and thanks. It looks like the plug could get stuck into the spring in the middle section of the battery compartment. Perhaps a snap-on back cover would be a nice addition. As for me, I'd just put tape over it. I dislike exposed battery terminals, and I'll too lazy to keep pulling then reinstalling the batteries.

18650 cell battery case from DL2MAN: is for 3x 18650 cell Li-ion (about L 65mm, diameter 18mm, Voltage 3.2V - 3.7V). Also need larger size battery holder (black color). ATTENTION 18650 cell has larger size then 14500 cell (about L 50mm, diameter 14mm (AA size)). Also available at the shop from Sunny (only official approved (tr)uSDX shop). 14500 cell battery case from DL1DN: is for 3x 14500 cell Li-ion (about L 50mm, diameter 14mm (AA size), Voltage 3.2V - 3.7V). 14500 cell has higer Voltage then AA size accu/battery (only 1.2- 1.5V, to less for (tr)uSDX). Also availabe at the shop from Sunny (only official approved (tr)uDSX shop)

What is the power output of the radio when running with the 3x 18650 or 3x 14500 batteries? How does the mAh capacity impact the power output, or does it only impact run time? I've been using a 12V 3Ah Bioenno battery with Power Poles and it works fine, but it's hard to hold the battery and radio in one hand and adjust my loop antenna at the same time. I think that making one of these battery boxes might be better, with everything in one package. Also, I love this radio, I've made almost 100 contacts from my front porch during summer and fall. It's a lot of fun!

Hi Manuel, congratulations on the great (tr)usdx project. I have ordered mine from Up Tech. I would like to get the power supply case as well. However how do you manage safely without a battery management system for the 18650 cells? I understand that you need a BMS. Does you know of a suitable one? Can it fit in the case?
@dl2man
@dl2man Жыл бұрын
Hi, I don´t use BMS. I trweat them, like I would treat AA Cells. Load them externally with a suitable charger and never discharge them completely. There are 18650 with BMS included, they´re called "protected" and usually have a protruding plus contact.

I have an easy update idea to your 3D Printed Battery Box. Modify the 3D Print for the housing that holds the 3-Cell Battery so it has the wire channel on both sides. That way you can insert the three cells into the battery holder, and slide it into the battery case with the batteries facing inside. That will they can't accidently fall out. That would expose the wires on the underside of the battery cradle to possible damage. However a few layers of thick tape over them should protect it well enough! Thoughts on this idea?

I don´t trust Lithium Batteries, so this is my kind of "emergency ejection port" in case they catch fire. No joke. This was the idea. I´ve mentioned and demonstrated that here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qayCraqiv8mXmHk.html

@@dl2manit's also worth mentioning that the cells should be at close as possible in terms of capacity and voltage... It looks like you have two different types of cells. Since you're putting together an instructional video of sorts, and your viewers may be of varying experience levels, it may be worth a redo on this video to prevent safely issues from followers. Thank you for this project. However, the STL files you posted produce a slightly different case than the one you show in the video. There is no cutout for the wires coming from the battery holder. ALso, the two pieces do not fit together - the channel in the back cover is just slightly too narrow. I have printed this several times and the result is the same. Can you post the STL files that were used for the pieces you demonstate in the video? Tnx de Arnie W8DU

I just downloaded it, put it in my slicer and it HAS the channel for battery wire. I´ve uploaded the files, I was using ! The fitting of the dovetail requires a PERFECT calibration of your printer. Only my prusa would produce perfecly fitting parts. My Vypers require more calibration. For quick fix: use scaling... Did you download the 2 lowest files from this page: www.printables.com/model/103619-housing-for-trusdx-qrp-transceiver/files "Bootom_Cover_Battery.stl" and "Battery-Slider.stl" ?

@@dl2man I did download the correct STL files. I am using an Ender 3 S1 printer and slicing with Cura 5.1.0. My calibration cubes are printing correctly so I don't know how to adjust for more accuracy. I will try scaling a little but I am concerned that either the bottom cover will no longer fit onto the tr(uSDX) or if I scale the battery slider then perhaps the battery holder will no longer fit. I will try scaling the battery slider and let you know what happens. Thank you for your reply.
