Track Cleaning 22 scale miles of HO scale track on Howard Zane's layout. This video will show how we are going about this monumental task to help Howard maintain his world-famous layout. Special thanks to my friend Andre Koneczny who helped me every step of the way and will continue to do so until we finish this monumental task. Thanks also to our friend Howard Zane who is brave enough to let us do this.

What a task! The benefit is it's Howard Zane's layout which is on my bucket list to see. You are very fortunate to have him as a neighbor and to have had the access to the layout that you do. Some people have all the luck.

That's a big job. Maintenance access is one of those things you have to engineer into a layout that big. I'm surprised you don't have an overhead creeper. A friend of mine uses one all the time. Good luck with the project.

There are many ways to clean track. The video shows 1 of many different ways that it can be done. There are many other videos on KZfaq showing different methods. This is just the way we decided to go about it.

Al, having helped Howard with the construction of the layout and the number of very long reaches. I know Howard has some liftout sections located throughout the layout which may help you reach some areas. He also has that cantilever ladder you lay on to reach those hard to reach areas. But I am sure you know all this. I definitely don't envy your task. Let me know if I can help. I am free on Monday and Wednesdays.

Hey Fred good to hear from you. After we finished for the day Howard did tell us he had lift outs! but we didnt know. Funny story..

Al, you guys should consider using No Ox ID an electrical conductivity grease to reduce track maintenance. I became aware of this on Ron Trains n Things ( kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oqiJq82Uub2ncmQ.html ) and works beautifully. The coating reduces oxidation.
