Thanks for sharing. I was at this level a year ago. I think the style of tution suits a lot of people and but not everyone and probably not the driver here. I learnt through lapping, looking at my video and comparing with the ideal, go back and do it again. Someone holding the wheel and instructing me on every turn would make me focus on them and not my own driving... I would go backward. Its like Palmer Sport, if you just do what they say you will be fast, its driving by joining the dots, but go out on your own and you may find you don't know braking points or lines at all and you have been reliant on the cues. Ultimately, it depends on the driver, we all have different levels of starting talent and learn in different ways.

Calum taught me about 25 years ago. He is still, and will always be, a legend!

They guy just wanted a fun time on the track. He got shouted at like a school boy.

When driving at high speed with little to no track experience confidence will most likely be low and therefore you will listen to your instincts more than your instructor. More time and practise will gradually increase confidence and resolve the issue.

i thought the driver was not listening to Calum clear instructions witch must of been frustrating for the Calum but i think there was progress regarding lap times well done Calum one day i would like to be instructed by you your pal Grant

Struggled with instructions, frustrating for the tutor having to say the same thing over and over lap after lap, you have to start somewhere though and progress from there 👍🏼

Why isn't the driver following the instructor's very clear and basic instructions?!

Hi Peter - I am working on a new website for Calum Lockie and I wondered if it would be ok for us to use this video on it? Please let me know. Cheers Luke

Luke Kemp Hi, yes no problem. This is my friend's session in my car. I actually have another video with my session with Calum, which is about 5-10s per lap quicker. I can send you them both

Hi Peter, Fantastic yes please. :-) Thank you for replying also and allowing me to use your video. I will pass this correspondence on to Melindi and Calum.

He’s not a born teacher that’s for sure

I dont know. When he decided to listen he shaved loads of time off

Hard to concentrate on everything he says while also driving and watching mirrors. I think the comments on here are pretty unfair, and there is too much information coming from the tutor.

worst pupil ever! He had to be told to stop talking and listen.If you're going to ask for expert advice here's a thing....LISTEN!!!!

Jesus.... I think information overload is the issue here... surely focusing on being smooth and safe would be better if its his first go rather than getting the perfect line. Can see he is making the driver very nervous.

Grabbing at the wheel and shouting. Looks like a horrible experience
@evoalan983 жыл бұрын
@@dazgreen He was grabbing the wheel or he would have run out of tarmac on the exit, instructor kept saying turn turn in and follow the cones. The driver was about as green as one could be and only been on track once many years ago. He got laptime down by 10 secs in 25 mins, so was finally listening, but is difficult when someone in your ear and your somewhat nervous. To be fair Thruxton is the fastest circuit around and needs a lot of commitment and practice through those complexes.

Why are so many instructors so awful!? How the fuck is he supposed to take all that information in while 1) he’s trying to drive 2) he ain’t familiar with car 3) he clearly doesn’t know the track 4) he’s inexperienced 5) instructor making him nervous. Waste of time. Why don’t they fucking film him on his own in the car, then watch it back with instructor commenting on what he should of done. Then try it with instructor in car.

That was agony, no wonder he got frustrated, you’re awful. 🤣 Maybe just try another hobby, you clearly have sod all natural ability.

It was my friend driving, so thankfully he probably won't read your comments. While I know your 'Mitch from the Internet' persona is based on the archetypal internet troll, you might find life more fulfilling if you were a bit nicer.
@mitchfromtheinternet2974 жыл бұрын
Peter we all have to learn, but read the other comments, it’s not just me who says it; your friend needs to listen. 🤷♂️ Don’t know how you know me, but jump in for a pax lap any time. 👍

I do agree that he was pretty hopeless! Still... It's nicer to be nice.
@mitchfromtheinternet2974 жыл бұрын
Peter, and it’s safer to everyone else to be honest. No one stuck up for Andrea de Cesaris or Pastor Maldonado because the we’re a danger to themselves and others. As you say, your friend is hopeless, this video got shared in a WhatsApp group and people agreed, he either shouldn’t have been on track to start with, or should have listened and paid attention. Even an average road driver would have been better, he must have some interest in cars to have been there in the first place, chances are he should have some idea about lines before pedalling. My mrs has never driven on track in her life, she’d be more proficient than him. Also, how do you know who I am? 🤨
@ChristianWalker664 жыл бұрын
@@mitchfromtheinternet297 The guys having tuition to learn the lines and the track so i disagree about him having to know the lines before he got in the car... Plus it says your name next your comment😐😐

A lot of instruction and quite critical in tone…like an inpatient school teacher. I’m not impressed at all and is more like a comedy sketch. Why didnt Calum take him round first, show him the lines and explain calmly and clearly. Then slowly introduce him lap by lap with positive inputs instead of grabbing the wheel and been critical. Like the teacher out of Kes.
