Duncan Disorderly Yes, we Floridians are stubborn during storms but God if you live in the damn beach evacuate inland. Just so long as you are off the beach. I had my grandparents too that lived on the beach in pensacola during Ivan and told them to leave over and over. I'm a nurse but at the time I was a medic and I kept thinking God what if I get a call from them and can't get there . luckily they evacuated just in time (literally left during the storm) because shortly after 4 Or 5 people stayed and were flooded in and we couldn't get there to help them. The dispatcher talked to one lady for 20 min trying to help her find a way to get out DURING the storm AS WE TRIED to make it in but there was no way. That lady fortunately ended up surviving but her husband did not and neither did some of the neighbors . I get not leaving if you live inland and sticking it out but cmon. If you live in the beach you know what kind of damage it's going to be. Stubborn stubborn Floridians lol

Lynn Frazier. Yes. Very stubborn and they're originally from the UK. Still as stubborn. lol I'm still in the UK, so it's frustrating being 3000 miles away, especially now they're getting on in years. I was forced to yell at my mother yesterday, in order to make her realise the danger. Apparently, St Pete Beach hasn't been hit as often as other parts of Florida over the years. Generally, the hurricanes tend to hit the east coast. Or, when they hit the west coast, the storm bounces off in the south into the Gulf and it doesn't hit them as hard. But, it's like I keep telling her, it doesn't mean it won't happen. Chances are the storm surge hitting the coast will ultimately flood their home. All you can do when you're faced with the worst is make the best of it and count your blessings. No matter how dark, there's always a light. Always. Anyway Lynn, I hope you stay safe, with no harm to you, your loved ones and your home. Peace.

The Saffir-Simpson scale (what the categories are based off of) goes up in increments of 18-26 every category. Really, I think it might be a good idea to break the categories into ten to make it more apparent the difference between the categories. The difference between a bottom end category 3 and a top end category 4 is actually really massive.

It isn't hitting Florida even as a 5.,it's a 3, it slowed down after hitting the islands.
