I've wanted to make this series for a long time. I've planned a lot of ingredients for the root series, but I didn't expect Chinese yam and arrowhead to be the theme of the first episode. Yunnan People love roots as much as they do flowers and fungi. We even believe that all the roots that grow under the soil have a certain medicinal value. Nourishing food benefits our health dispels coldness from our body and relieves fatigue. I hope the new series can show you some different Yunnan foods.

I started watching your videos back in 2020, while in lockdown. My entire world was falling apart because so many people of my own were passing away. For anyone wanting to try Arrowhead, this kind is Sagittaria trifolia not the Arrowheads commonly found in western gardens. Those are Syngonium podophyllum and they are POISONOUS. Happy eating y'all! ☺️

Dawang is Apenjie's big baby. Axia is Apenjie's baby sister. These 2 can be quite a handful for Apenjie 😄 Some netizens were not impressed with Axia's mischief, especially when she's "provoking" Dawang. I, on the other hand, find that it is perfectly alright. We play pranks on our loved ones just for gags. Those people want to rub off their own misery onto others 🙄

Para mí es sorprendente la cantidad de plantas, frutos y raíces que se usan en China. No conocía esos tubérculos pero se ven muy buenos. Yo soy colombiana y tenemos la yuca, el ñame, la mafafa, las arracachas, diversas clases de papas , los ullucos...🙂 Es maravilloso aprender de otros pueblos y gentes.

放塑膠管或竹管的才會直挺挺的,台灣市面直直長長的山药都是放管栽種的,自己栽種不放管或像視頻放塑膠麻袋自然生長的有歪屁拐腰形有梨形也有地瓜形的,漂亮形狀完全是為现在工商社會相貌好看能赚高價而多費工材,爺爺奶奶時代是自然耕自然而食不重賣相。

This is why we're moving back to the islands after we retire. The satisfaction of eating food from your own land is beyond measures and gratifying. It is just a personal comment on what I felt during the toughest ordeal. All those wonderful videos the wisdom the quotes of China would be very close to my heart. I will always cherish those memories and the warmth. The special place in my heart that I have will always be their. The connect and the bond I will cherish at a personal level.

Well now that's smart 1:35! Rather than trying to hack through the soil and possibly damaging the yams, you buried vegetable bags when you first planted them so that it be easier to dig them up. I wonder if that would work with potatoes? Apenjie and Axia, such a cute sister team. I wonder what you two were like when you were kids? Lol. Thank you for the new series Apenjie. I've seen Chinese yams before, but I've never eaten them. Do they taste similar to taro or sweet potato?

The Chinese yam tastes sweet, sticky, and it is very crunchy. and the way we grow the Chinese yam, hmm...I think maybe it will work at potatoes, maybe🤣

After the yam is cut, there will be mucus on the surface. When cooked, it is very soft, tastes like potatoes, and has a very light taste.

I was surprised by that as well. I'm wondering if it works with sweet potatoes. My mom tried planting some but they were deep when we tried harvesting them. The soil below also compacted them so they didn't grow as large as they should've, even though the bushes up top were large and healthy.

Chinese yam are very smooth and starchy unlike the ones in the west which are more watery.
