Mexico is a master at keeping its secrets hidden. Particularly in the Western Sierra Madre, which descends from the mountains to the Pacific Ocean. El Chepe is one of the world's ten famous trains, as well as one of the most breathtaking rail excursions.
Because the train is a unique starting point to discover a country, this documentary series renews the genre of rail travel by taking the time to meet the people, appreciate the stories and the daily life of the inhabitants met along the way.
From Mauritania to Sicily, from Mexico to the USA and Czech Republic, each episode takes us onboard an emblematic train, to meet those who live, eat and sleep and build projects there...
On the Rails also explores what surrounds this legendary means of transport: The villages, the breathtaking landscapes, the must-see tourist steps, the train stations, the countryside and the mountains crossed by the journalist.

I love Mexico. Happy I retired in Queretaro, after 60 years of visiting mainly Acapulco. The people are so nice and kind, and my pension goes farther, and i feel safe here, unlike my birth city of Chicago. Oak Park and Waukegan were not safe also, and super expensive. Thank God, I have returned to Mexico, afer working from 7-70.

The translators used in this and other of your documentaries totally change the vocal inflections of the people being translated, hence the translation of what they say comes off as trite, dismissive, disconnected from what's really being portrayed or overly exuberant. Very hard to follow the beautiful footage when translations are so poorly managed.

I wouldn't stay at a hotel without electricity. If there's no electricity, then I'm unlikely to have access with Wi-Fi (wireless fidelity). Amish people would visit such lodge.
