As an Italian I remember perfecrtly what I was doing when I heard Falcone had been brutally killed. It was a moment of epiphany: now it was my turn to fight mafia whenever I encountered it. "Their ideas walk on our legs" was what we kept telling one another and things have actually got slightly better since then.

A beautiful island but lamentably it is strewn with vast quantities of garbage which lines many of the roads, verges, tunnels and countryside. Everywhere you drive you see bin bags and discarded waste which people presumably dump along the roads or in various spots around the towns and cities. There is plastic everywhere - It is time the Italian government tackled this terrible problem and impose fines for not disposing of household refuse properly. Many tourists must be put off visiting and recommending Sicily to others. Tourism is an important part of the economy. It is heartbreaking to see this and depressing

Bellissimo video, I really liked this short documentary about sicily BUT as a Sicilian I have to admit that there is SO much more outside the main actractions, such as Palermo, Siracusa, Catania etc.. I will suggest if you visit SICILIA to discovery the west side of the island, to the Trapani province to be precise. Where you can visit the beautiful towns, islands and beaches, Such ERICE town, the isole Eolie, riserva naturale dello zingaro And many other attractions.

Funny that you should ask at this time because I just spent last evening with my two friends who are from Provincia di Trapani ! The wife is from Partanna and the husband is from Santa Ninfa, two beautiful people and we were talking about this very subject. Bear in mind, that the following comments are my opinion only and you know what they say about opinions ! First of all, I just feel very much at home there and I just get the feeling that I was there at another time in history. The people there are very warm and open to me and that in itself is priceless. I don’t know if you are Sicilian/Of Sicilian heritage but if you are you will understand the meaning of those kind of emotions ! Then there is the beauty of the land, which to me is absolutely breathtaking in itself . The beaches are wonderful e.g. San Vito Lo Capo, the food and wine and the ambiance unmatched in my opinion. Erice and it’s Norman Castle give you a view below that is magnificent unlike anything I have ever seen. The cities of Marsala, Mazzara del Vallo,Trapani, Castel Vitrano, just to mention a few have charm and historic significance that is priceless ! I could go on and on but I don’ want to bore you but if there is anything else I can help you with, I most certainly would be glad to do so. I just renewed my Italian Passport and if I had it at this moment I think I would buy a plane ticket and go there right now. Is there a particular reason why you are interested in Western Sicily ? Please stay in touch with me, I would like to get to know you ! Pasquale

Where did you go to school. You should be embarrassed of yourself. Pity you for your ignorance. Come to my country Norway where we learn history in an open minded way and taking into account all the wonders brought to our continent from the East, the Near East and Africa. The first homework you ought to do is research where the name of our continent Europe came from? The name of Palermo, Cagliari, Malta, Granada, Córdoba, Toledo, Madrid.. find out where these names come from ... Next homework: do yourself a favor and go to school and learn history because you have a serious knowledge deficit . Poverino, davvero!
