Tractor Day at the Ball Park! Garden & Compact Tractors with Pull Type Box Scrapers In Action!

Lots of garden tractors, compact tractors and lawn mowers assemble in our local ball park to get the baseball diamonds ready for the upcoming ball season after being neglected as a result of the recent pandemic. The spring of 2020 has been challenging for local baseball leagues but we are able to get the diamonds quickly ready with the help of a John Deere 3720 compact tractor and tiller, a John Deere 755, John Deere garden tractors with pull type grader boxes and plenty of zero-turn lawn mowers.

I've got to tell ya. I would give my I teeth to have one of those garden tractors and a zero turn mower. I take care of a little league field in California by myself with a JD D140 and it leaves a lot to be desired. That's fantastic that you have people that help out. I wish more folks were like that around here. It's definately a thankless job and work that just never ends, but it's well worth it knowing that 100's of kids every year are going to learn, grow and build lifelong memories. Thanks for the video and keep up the good work!

You nailed it Brian! My thoughts exactly and we are fortunate to have some dedicated volunteers for our little local park. There's nothing more rewarding than doing a job and watching a bunch of kids enjoy the fruits of your labor. Kudos to you for doing what you do out there in CA. I remember spring, we( the team) would take a Saturday and fix up the field. Maybe ask the team and the families to volunteer through the season? I used to do yard work on weekends for a neighbor ($1.00/hr. 😂 I'm that old) but taught me to work and know my neighbors.

One of my favorite views of a ballpark is the elevated shot that shows the grooming pattern in the outfield. You captured the patterns your army of tiny beasts laid in the infields perfectly. I used to have a JD400. Working infields and mowing outfields was a regular occurrence... but that special “workday” in the spring when several people, and a few of us with tractors, got together was always the most fun... and rewarding!! Thanx for capturing that spirit.

Aside from watching my girls play ball at the park on opening day, the work day is my favorite. I think it is so rewarding to see the fields go from their stale winter state of neglect to primed and ready for action in practically a single afternoon. Thanks for the reflection and kind words. It's a fun and rewarding thing to be a part of as you say.

Another good video. This just goes to show what can be done with small equipment on a bigger job like five Ball Diamonds. Good job. It takes a whole Community to keep a ballpark in good shape well done!

I used to maintain the little league fields in my area too. We are in Central NY and after years of struggling I found the secret to be was to spray the infield and base paths with a herbicide (Roundup) in mid to late September. I found if I put them to bed in good shape opening them the following spring was very, very easy.

That's very true Bob. We try to spray in the fall as well but difficult to get done sometimes.

I suggest getting a John Deere 1200a, meant for golf bunkers and baseball infields. a gator works but we use the 1200a groomer and then use one of our gators to chalk the diamonds. the groomer is really nice and we use 2 for our local park. it is 3 wheeled and almost acts like a zero-turn lawn mower. we have 11 soon-to-be 13 diamonds, one with a huge warning track. They are really nice with the front blade, teeth in the middle, and a drag at the back

If this is a regular thing. Might look into ABI gravel Rascal. It does have attachments like a cocoa mat, broom and leveling chain mat. But those implements are expensive.

Hey.... you ever think about getting a sprayer and hooking it up to the gator? I mix a gallon of vinegar, 1/4 cup dawn soap, to 34 gallons of a brine solution, (I use about 1 cup softener salt to 10 gallons of warm water) seems to work pretty good!

i think your bill tractor deserves a john deer paint job.you paint so well and that tractor looks like a work horse and it will look sweet

You could be right. The only problem with painting a tractor like Bill is that then you don't want to get Bill dirty and Bill is just better suited for getting dirty! It's sometimes nice to have a tractor that you're not worried about gettin' dirty 😋 I have another 318 that I plan to restore one day. It was the first one that I ever bought in 1997 when I was just a wee lad of 21 years old! It's sitting in the corner waiting on me.

you look like you I've in a great placenta have that many people to come out and do that for the kids.you all did a really nice job.you dont want to spray that field because the kids will be playing on it?

It's a good day when everyone comes together to work on stuff like this. yeah, we didn't want to spray it so close to ball season plus we were running out of time to wait on the spray. We should have done it sooner.

Oh gosh. Here I am listening to this in 2024 and wondering why your governor would have to say it was safe for a ball season. Then I see the year it was posted. My kids are 10 and 8 today. I let them know about a year ago how the masks and distancing is not normal in this world I've lived in and that it's not a reoccurring event.
