Hey folks! As you know, we're about to kickstart our cabin build project, and we're giving you an up-close and personal look at some of the tools and machinery we're going to be using over the next couple of months.
Now, let's talk about something super important - the IronCraft tractor loader-mounted auger (Model: 9211) we're using. This beauty was born in Tennessee, the heart of IronCraft - who used to be Titan Implements, in case you didn't know. It has got a lot going on under the hood - its GPM range is 5-13, max pressure is 2973 PSI, max torque at 3500 PSI is 1103 FT LB, and its speed at max torque is 98 RPM. It weighs around 101 lbs and can accommodate a 4 - 16" bit size.
This is a front-end loader-mounted auger and it is far more precise than a typical rear-mounted, 3-point hitch auger. Now, don't get me wrong, we're not throwing shade on those 3-point hitch augers - they're great and have their own advantages. But for our upcoming projects, we've chosen the IronCraft auger for its precision and flexibility.
One thing we're crazy about is how this baby performs. From the flow range to the max pressure, torque, and speed - it's all perfectly calibrated to ensure we can dig exactly where and how we want, every time. The 2" Hex Shaft is another sweet deal - it offers great strength and durability for the toughest projects.
If you’re as stoked as we are about digging and groundwork, you'll see this auger making quite a few appearances in our future videos. So, make sure to stay tuned for all that exciting stuff!
As always, this isn't a sales pitch, we just love sharing our experiences and thoughts on tools that work for us. Remember, every project and every user is different, so always choose the right tool for YOU.
Alright, time to wrap this up. Thanks for watching, and if you're as excited as we are for this cabin build and for more IronCraft auger action, make sure you smash that like button, share this video, and subscribe to our channel! Until next time, keep building, keep dreaming, and keep exploring.

I didn't hear you mention a couple of the advantages I perceive, having not yet used one of these. A) Down pressure is possible on the FEL, but not on the 3PH. B) Reversible. Catching a rock can draw an auger down, and a PTO cannot reverse to free it C) No more broken sheer bolts. The hydraulic motor will stall to protect things. Are there more?

I was looking to do this and was about to spend the money on an expensive third function and happened to mention what I wanted it for and a couple different people told me they weren't designed for constant use like that. My understanding was that you will overheat the solenoid on the third function and it will swell and become inoperable. The third function is meant to be used for momentary things like grapples and some of these attachments like tree shears. I think you would be fine running it for a few holes or if you have good soil where you can quickly dig the hole and allow it to cool, but I would be very hesitant using it to install something like an entire fence or if you have really rocky soil like me where it takes several minutes to dig a hole. I ended up running a set of hoses from my rear remotes ($400 in hoses) and I bought a $1,000 carbide tooth rock bit and still couldn't get through the rock on many holes and just gave up. I didn't want to burn up my fluid or mess up my pump. I went with a different type of fence. I still use the FEL auger when I have a few holes as the weight of the front end loader and pressure do help tremendously. The other problem most people will run into is that the tractor's hydraulic pump GPM will not sufficiently run one of these augers. Mine is 10.8 GPM on a 65hp tractor and it was at the bottom of what would run most. I think you can still use one but it's just going to turn slower. Someone trying to rent one from an equipment rental is probably going to find ones meant for 20-35 GPM.

Most tractors don't really have enough hydraulic flow to run these things. I know my little Kubota wouldn't stand a chance, not to mention not enough lift height on the loader, all I'd end up doing is permanently getting the auger stuck in the ground because of the lack of hydraulic flow, the lack of lift capacity of the loader itself to retrieve the auger, and the type of soil, rather clay and hardpan it would never work....the only way to dig holes where I'm at is with an old school clam shell post hold digger and a digging/wrecking bar to break up the hard pan. The lack of hydraulic flow, also limits the amount of torque that the hydraulic motor has as well, so it won't dig like you would think it should either with a smaller underpowered tractor. Best of to just buy one of those small gas powered hand held augers...and a heck of a lot cheaper too.

I’d love if you could test this on the T25, this has been one of my biggest questions for a front auger on a smaller tractor. 3 point would never work for what I’m trying to go through in Colorado. I’d be curious of power, speed and ability to go down at least 4’ on the T25! 🙏🏼

Tony, Thank you for posting! I have been looking for a front end loader auger since I got my Tractor last year and this seems to fit the bill! And thank you also for your advice you gave me a couple Weeks ago regarding my TYM hydraulic system. In the end the reason my hydraulic cooler kept blowing out was the hydraulic filter had collapsed internally. But back to the topic. I’m Excited to follow your next adventure. I’ve learned a ton from you and wish you all the best! God bless Kevin

Put in many a fence pole with my rear 3pt. auger. Until I encountered heavy, dense, wet, clay. Of course, I got stuck. But the bad decision. Rocked tractor and extreme leverage broke off the hydraulic gearcase 3pt arm cover. Stupid. Need a reversible front-end unit like yours. Already put on forward hydraulics and a quick connect skid steer bracket. Good luck with yours. How did you determine proper flow requirements? 7:53 7:54

@wildbill23c

They have the ability to flow more oil, but your hydraulic pump is what controls that LOL....don't matter what couplers you have if your hydraulic pump can't supply enough pressure...which most tractors do not, or are right on the border line of it'll work, and it might work, and might not work LOL. I know my little tractor wouldn't run one, and the soil conditions here it wouldn't work even if the tractor could run it.

If your tractor actually has 5+GPM, it'll work, but you really want to be in the 7-10GPM to really get any sort of use out of any of these hydraulic post augers...the more GPM, the better performance you'll get out of the hydraulic motor, and have enough torque to actually do anything with it...what looks good on paper doesn't correspond to what actually happens in the real world with these things....if you are meeting the bare minimum, don't expect it to do much, if anything especially if you have rocky soil, or clay soil, you'll most likely just get the dang thing stuck in the ground LOL.

I have have a FEL auger from Homestead Implement. It is rated for a minimum of 6 gpm. I use it with a jD1025r which is rated at something like 6.2 gpm in hydraulics. I have used it to put in posts (biggest are 4 x 4 in posts) and make small holes to plant baby trees. I have very nice soil with very few rocks if any and easy to dig. It works well all be it slow but who is in a race with these things. I have two complaints with this (1) the auger bit is a little bit too long for my subcompact tractor but I am talking like two inches too long but I deal with it because my soil is forgiving (2) you have to buy a skid steer adaptor with it if you have a John Deere. I have a deck project that will need like eight posts so I Will have to make sure to give the tractor a rest between each post hole in consideration of the comment posted above giving the third function a break on my small John Deere.

I wonder if any tractors have a slide or switch to swap their 3rd function buttons? Then it wouldn't matter which way the hoses were connected. Just swap the button functionality. I like the idea of a FEL mounted auger but also wonder about adequate hydraulic flow and continuous use. I think my Deutz-Fahr 5080D with Stoll 35-18P FEL has 13.2 gpm (50 lpm) hydraulic flow via my 3rd function valve. I sent a question to Deutz-Fahr America and my dealer to confirm flow rate and to ask if one of these Ironcraft models would be suitable to use with my tractor. Can I borrow your auger to try it out? 😁
