In the South-Western area of Germany where I come from it isn't uncommon to find remaining farm buildings in villages, up until after the second world war this was the normal place for farms. Only after the war ended farmers started to transition to farms outside of the villages, mainly because they had more space there and could modernize their farms. There is even a special word for these kinds of farms, they're called "Aussiedlerhöfe", translated to English it should mean something like "emigrant farm".

We too hire a contractor to make the bales but we still have our old, small Krone baler. We use it from time to time for really small fields as you can pull it with a small 60hp tractor. Modern big balers require at least 150hp at the PTO.

In Denmark at the farm where i buy my milk, the farmer only have a single Case IH Maxxum 115 with a Q6S frontloader, they have the local contractor do all the field work. They said that that is the cheapest way to run a farm, because you have no maintenance, insurance, diesel etc to pay for, and the contractor gets all that cheaper that the farmer can by themself.

Yeah interesting difference between European countries like Belgium (the one and the video) and other tiny countries like The Netherlands where farmers simply don't have the space farmers in the US do. What I personally admire about farming in Europe though, is that because of the small space we have, we have become very efficient. We make do with what little space we have!

@@boomer1049 Yeah, for later generations they also run Cummins engines in Europe and for some time now, a whole lot of FPT engines. Remember, the 1455 XL has its roots back to the 1455 non-XL from the late 1970's. Both the 1255 and 1455 was only manufactured in Germany with Neuss engines, including XL-models.
