she deserved way more then she got. I was very fortunate to be around (and that my local alt station played her) during this period in rock. At least listening to her music today brings me back to a happier time :)

I used to have, "The Burdens of Being Upright," on the cassette. I played it so much that the tape had been worn out after a couple of years. Wow, this brings me back to my teen years. I miss this.

The 90s were great but also too much competition. And also the pop scene was big. So this kind of artists were aired at night at 10pm 11pm or midnight in defect. You had a big variety from funk metal punk electro techno pop R&B new metal grunge rock and roll new wave hip hop shoegaze among others. Now you have images and noise produced by computer.

Tracy Bonham was too grunge for the main stream at that time. Main stream music was pulling away from that stuff by the time she hit the scene. Lilith Fair and lighter alternative music is what they wanted. Grunge was pretty much dead in the water. Bonham came out way too late.

She had crappy videos, except the Mother Mother one (with the TV). Not her fault, it's probably her record company's, but MTV wouldn't play that "you in front of the wall" video concept even if the song is good.
@Neufertful7 жыл бұрын
I though she was the next Alanis. She is extremely talented, but maybe her music wasn´t pop enough. I´m guessing "Bulldog" could have been a single for that record.
@POPNDOUGH6 жыл бұрын
I thought "Sharks Can't Sleep" was awesome with the fish tank, and Sea-Chimps. She came out just as Alternative Nation was ending. In 1997, MTV switched to mostly pop divas, boy bands, and reality shows for a new generation. More importantly, the Telecommunications Act of 1996 allowed huge conglomerates(like MTV's parent company Viacom) to buy up all local independent radio stations(aka alternative) and push corporate shite to make more money. From 1996-2002, Clear channel went from owning 40 stations to 1,240 after the deregulation. futureofmusic.org/article/research/radio-deregulation-has-it-served-musicians-and-citizens
