Bobby Kimmel wrote this song in the early 70s, I think. He recorded it with a group from McCabe's Guitar Shop in Santa Monica, CA, with a group called The Floating House Band. I first heard it back then. It has stayed with me. It's easy to play and sing, and it's one of my favorite spiritual songs. (I apologize for stumbling on a line in the second verse. Here it is - "... and so as I wander through this world all alone...") With my band (Tracy Newman and the Reinforcements) I recorded "One Way Road" on my 2017 CD called "That's What Love Can Do to Your Heart." A little trivia about Bobby Kimmel: Along with the late, great Kenny Edwards, Bobby was 1/3 of Linda Ronstadt's group The Stone Poneys. They had a hit record with "Different Drum." I recorded this video during the COVID 19 isolation period in April 2020. Bonus: Here's an early (1965) video of me that might be fun for you: • "Cripple Creek" with T... Have a nice day!
Here are the lyrics
ONE WAY ROAD
I’m walkin’ down a one-way road
And where I’m bound nobody knows
And as I must leave good friends behind
There’s just one question that crosses my mind
Where does it all, all come from?
Where does it all lead to
When our walk on earth is done?
I’m walkin’ down a one-way road
And where I’m bound nobody knows
I’m walkin’ down a solitary road
And there is no one who can go everywhere I go
And so as I wander through this world all alone
I can’t help buy wonder if it’s really my home (CHORUS)
This road that I’m on leads me ever into the unknown
And with each new dawn I must find a new home
But I can’t help but hope if I walk straight and I try hard
At the end of this road I’ll find my god (CHORUS)
