hi madam Northern trust Barclays RBS all these are broker and executed trade in LSE, NASDAQ, NYSE. it is correct. then what is the role of custody in investment banking operations. as far as I know all works done by custodian on behalf of clients.

That is correct 💯 Rahul. Custodian holds the securities of hedge funds. Hedge funds traded in securities through investment banks like RBS, Barclays etc Investment banks have License of LSE to trade on London stock exchange..
