Anthony Edwards took Phoenix's lunch and danced on the Suns' grave during Minnesota's first-round sweep, and that got all the headlines.
But the truth is that the Timberwolves were just a better-built team, and everyone should've seen it coming.
Trading for Bradley Beal absolutely sunk the Suns, and there's nothing they can do about it going forward ... well, almost nothing.

For those who somehow still don't get how historically bad Beal's contract is, here's a list of all NBA players to ever receive a no trade clause in their contract: Carmelo, Kobe, Duncan, Garnett, LeBron, Dirk, David Robinson, Stockton, D Wade.... and Bradley Beal

@@akirakurusu4215 Melo's and Stockton's cases are definitely interesting in hindsight, but I can at least respect that those teams had some type of vision at the time, even if they failed (especially Melo). Wizards were going no where and knew they were going no where when they gave Beal that contract

Been a Phx fan for almost 15 years... this is the first season I really didn't like watching them play. I didn't care they lost either. I hate teams without an identity. Basketball is a team sport, the team has to have a cohesive game plan. This your turn, my turn, bs offense that teams loaded with starts do is infuriating. It's like they don't know how to make the pieces fit.... maybe you just can't make them fit, in which case it is the GMs fault. shoutout to Beal's agent, that no trade clause is going to make this situation unsolvable

Beal is a poor man's Lillard. Both charismatic scorers in non-contenders with zero pressure. But when they were given the opportunity to be a part of a championship caliber team, they blew it.

The thing in the NBA is oftentimes theres more than 1 team with a problem at once…. and sometimes the solution is trading one problem for another problem. And usually those teams are star heavy but dysfunctional contending teams ie: Lakers, Suns, Heat, Bucks, Sixers, Clippers… I could see Beal going to any of those teams

They’re a team without anyone to run the offense or give them any sort of identity outside of KD, Booker, and Beal playing the whole “Your turn, my turn” game and winging every possession. They’ve got plenty of talent and skill, with nobody there to direct the team on the court. Absolutely zero defense on that team too

They were doomed the moment they'd decided to give up on what they had already built and bring in KD and then Beal. The last couple of championship winning teams have proved that you need 2 superstars and have the rest be good role players and specialists to complement them.

This big three on paper just did not make sense to me. When Kyrie, KD, and James H were on the Nets on paper made sense, JH handling the ball, KD and Kyrie on opposite sides makes sense on paper. Too bad the pandemic happened.

Absolutely. Twins aren’t exactly balling with the Nets. KD was the best asset they could have obtained at that time. Name every single player better than KD (Luka, Jokic…etc.). No chance in hell they could have gotten them.

i mean decent analysis but they can just wait to trade beal when he’s expiring and just say we’re not brining you back or just let him walk in free agency. the reality is the suns still have 5 first round picks in the next 8 years as it is and that this is beal booker and durants first year together with a brand new coach and roster. they don’t “have” to do anything, just run it back with a few roster and coaching tweaks and build continuity and see if you can do any better than you did this year

Beal's has two more year before his contract becomes expiring. By that time Durant's 38 years old. There isn't time to waste for the Suns. The only tweaking they can do right now is sign vet minimum players. They can certainly run it back, but if you think have three overlapping redundant superstars and a bunch of vet minimum players will get you a contending roster, you are truly clueless about basketball.

@@maplenerd22 i didn’t say they’d contend nor that they should just keep minimum players and they have 3 current contracts that aren’t minimums in allen nurkic and little, and oneale who’s expiring, they also have their first round pick this year to use in a trade and let’s not act like they’re THAT redundant. although these players all “take midrange shots” they’re games are more than different enough for them to figure it out. if i was ownership i wouldn’t have done the beal trade but we are where we are. also i eat sleep and breathe basketball bruh

I don’t know why KD keeps thinking he can go to teams without defensive identity or a point guard he can trust. His most successful stints were with top PGs in the league (Westbrook & Curry) along an all defensive Power Forward who could switch easily (Ibaka & Draymond) Because yes, you can be a 7 foot leading scorer and lead your teams in assists-Kareem did it in Milwaukee. But that’s almost never the path to success, because Kareem’s team was bad when he did that. If freaking Kareem Abdul-Jabbar can trust his point guards, why can’t KD?!

The Beal trade did nothing but help. People dont get this. Even with CP3's salary off the books the Suns would still be on the second apron, still no cap space. The roster would be the same just with an old CP3 that doesnt even play in the playoffs anyway. Getting Beal was a free upgrade over CP3. They didnt surrender anything other than CP3 and Shamet and some draft swaps that had already been traded so those were really bad drafts anyway. The Suns' demise actually was accelerating the timeline by trading for KD.

No without CP3 they wouldn't have been over the 2nd apron. They would only have been over the 1st apron. You don't understand. The problem isn't with trading CP3. The problem is trading for Beal because his contract puts them in a complete bind with no flexibility. They would have been better off for trading CP3 for one or two solid role players.

The problem is the suns doesnt know what they are doing. Bookers first playoff appearance was 2021 and they made the nba finals. 2022 2nd round exit. 2023 2nd round exit. 2024 1st round exit. Booker isnt even the one who made a diff to bring the suns in a playoff run. Its CP3. The moment he arrive in phx. They playoff contender to championship contender. Now they fck up their own team and the owner doesnt believe it.
