I enjoyed both segments. It has really help me to return back to my African culture. I was raised as a Christian in the USA. I was never taught my "true" religion. In so many ways, we celebrated and worship, but still I was under the European beliefs. I always embraced and love my African culture since I was a child, but now I'm REALLY learning and have return back to my roots! thank you so much!

The western approach to punishment is deferred yill judgement day or a distant future or after death while that of our practice was almost immediate. What books should I use to learn of our history?

Yes what Mr Ahadzi is saying, he is bit right particularly the Ewes are true descendants of Joseph, who was sold to Egypt by his brothers and the Ephraim tribes are those who dances agbaza and the Manasseh tribes are the borbor dancers. The Bible is our historical book.

You ask why Africans speak about Egypt? Take the steam Engine for example, though 'invented' in a different continent, you can't speak about it without talking about America. Egypt represents the climax of African civilisations. Because of its climate it has the best archaeological evidence. Besides, it doesn't add up to say that Egypt was an Island that developed exclusively of its neighbouring people. Africans must take a close look at Egypt because this represents the best that Africans achieved.

Incidentally, divination exists in several parts of Africa, more so in the Great Lakes region of Central and East Africa. We do study a lot about West African history, but I think West Africans don't know much about the Great lakes region and Southern Africa.

We should not concentrate on past glory. We have history and the culture. But modern history, blacks we are lagging behind. Let us harness our abilities and let us behind. We are reading books about ancient Egypt written by foreigners. Our learned are talking of knowledge when they read from books written by foreigners and speak in other tongue.

Nana thanks for the education on the history of Africa. It is so sad we not have any lesson as a subject as African studies. Where we are taught the our history. How can we raise a generation of people with self confidence of who they are. Hmmm. I have done a lot of research and I can tell you by giving verse and historical prove and cultural practices in the bible that Africans were the people of old civilisation. I hear the frustration about Egypt being repeated here but let's not be distracted from the point our elder is trying to make. However words do matter, tremendously. Egypt is a European word. Ancient people of this region referred to the area and beyond as Kmt or land of the blacks. I think we should replace Egypt with the term Nile Valley Civilization or other which begins at the source of the Nile River in the Great Lakes Region in South East Africa to the Mediterranean Sea. Even the word 'Nile' is of Greek origin! While our uncle is not wrong, I think we need to start using better language to describe where our ancestors came from including thier cultural and spiritual contributions which certainly did not come from the country we now refer to as 'Egypt' alone. A good start is renaming every place on the continent with names used by our ancestors up to and including changing the word used for the continent which also comes from the Greeks and Romans (the fact that Lake Victoria is named after a British monarch makes me physically ill to my stomach and feels abusive to my spirit). One last point, much of our culture and history was passed down through oral tradition and written script not well documented and studied like that of ancient Egypt. The knowledge from other regions is still there but need to be brought to light, studied, documented and discussed more which is happening now at lightening speed.
