Remember that the orchestra of the Hong Kong Peninsula played a French tune ( think it was La Madelon) each time I visited for the traditional five o'clock tea. A great mark of courtesy for a young Belgian man visiting from Antwerp.

Brings memories of The Peninsula in Manila... It played on a loop in my room. Used to watch it every time I would check in... I miss this place so much... and diving.

they just forget to mentioned that you can barely breath there without irritating your nostrils and that after few minutes your eyes also starts getting irritated reddish and burning from the horrible pollution, the sky is always grayish even in strong hot weather because of the polluted thick fog in the air. Oh yes, do not even bother to wonder about freedom for the majority of the local population.

@@djcorvette8375 It is a verifiable fact that the Kadoories were NOT involved in the opium trade. This business was monopolised by Jardines and later the Sassoons.

Opium was sold at pharmacies legally in the late 1800s and early 1900s in many countries.

Thank you very much for the contribution to HK from Kadoorie family. However, The unwritten multi understanding policy of British . If they cannot have. They certainly will destroy it. It had been shown in India , Burma, Ceyland etc.
