www.chrisdenwood.com. This video shows some of the traditional methods of attribute training from traditional karate. Even though this kind of training is considered by many to be 'old-skool' and 'out-dated', it is still in my view just as relevant now as it was when it was first developed. The aim of the training is not to 'body build' or 'weight train', but instead to develop and enhance the specific functional attributes associated with the effective application of traditional karate kata. Thus, it helps put into place an essential piece of the karate jigsaw puzzle - hope you enjoy!

Hello, Yes, I always use jow both before and after training. The song is called 'Japanese Melancholy' and it's from Jewel Beat. Thanks for the kind words and glad you enjoyed the video! best wishes, Chris

Yes, there are lots of sites to choose from. I have used before from sea of chi and plumb dragon herbs - both of these were good. Now I'm using a home-made jow. Hope this helps, Chris

I like ur conditioning, very natural and functional..unlike weight machines in the gym that only builds attractive muscles but fragile bones,, since gravity is not downwards doesnt strenthen the bones and tendons...old school is the best way to train^_^..sad to say here in philillines its hard to find those implements...I did my best using substitutes like old tire as makiwara, kettle bell as ishi sashi, slegdehammer as chi ishi, ankle weights as tetsu geta^_^..train hard godbless!

Weight machines do not create fragile bones the only good thing about them is rehab

I would say that the old ways of karate training, like punching a makiwara, is the best way to train. They are the hard but functional and effective way of developing strength. Train your striking hand and feet to absorb impact from hard object. If you hit the head that is a hard object. If you did not train the old way you may absorb pain. Weight training is supplemental.

It's typically a sandbag, a bag of dried beans or metal ball bearings depending on your level of training.
