Must visit in Terengganu!
We visited the Terengganu State Museum before but this was our first time visiting the newly established Terengganu Cultural Village at the museum. The village is set-up to mimic a Malaysian village 200 years ago.
We had so much fun exploring the old wooden boats, a fisherman’s house, traditional boats, traditional houses, traditional games, traditional wedding, and traditional music! (gamelan).
The museum unfortunately has to close at this time due to CMCO but it will be open again as soon as the CMCO is over on Dec 6.

Due to its history background and geographical location, Terengganu receives cultural influences from the neighbour in the north: Kelantan and Thailand. Though it is conservative Muslim state, the general public is still enjoying the freedom of worship. However, beer or alcohol is not widely available in certain places especially Malay own shops. Always remember that while in Rome, do as the Romans do. And to be honest I like the fastival in my lovely Malaysia.

Houses in South East Asia are built on stilts to avoid flood during monsoon season. The main stairs in front are sometime detachable to avoid wild animals, like tigers, from entering the house. Malay people are masters of the sea. The vessels built by the Malay people were far larger and more superior than that of the Chinses and Western. It was said that the vessels were too big to dock at Chinese waters. The first person to travel around the world was a Malay by the name of Panglima Awang, or Enrique of Malacca as the Western calls him, a Malaccan from Sumatra. No Malay wedding is complete without the “bersanding” ceremony, bride and groom seated on the wedding dias while guests offer them prayers and blessings during the “tepung tawar”, when guests sprinkles rose water, shower the newly wed with yellow rice, etc. Eggs jn wedding is a symbol of fertility.

To be honest...not so many tourist go to this site of Malaysia (east coast)...mostly will focus on west coast... East coast people are welcoming guest like they've known us for many years...they will treat you to the max...it will make you wanna come back again and again and again.. i am happy for u guys and i hope u can visit our east Malaysia Sabah and Sarawak one day...

You both might as well just elope in Terengganu haha. I love the gamelan music. When I was very little we used to have this TV programme that shows all these cultures and my favourite part was to keep the gamelan music on during lunch time or doing homework when mom and dad were out working. The music brings back a lot of fond childhood memories. Thanks for showing the culture village. Definitely a must go.

Gamelan is heavenly music, golden music that resonates, vibrates and rises to the heavens , the history of gamelan is it was used to call-upon the dewas or gods, gongs was played in high places to summon the gods and spirits from Mount Meru, the abode of the Gods.

When I was a child, I ate rice with coffee..nasi lemak (only the rice) mixed it together with black coffee.. delicious 😋!! Hahaha my mother taught me that.. She told me people back then was poor and got nothing to eat. I don't know if this kind of food exist in other Malay family, but I think its only done by the northern people.. my mother is from Kedah.
