I struggle with my release too and a bit of a "game changer" for me was a drill where I kept my pinky in contact with my face and only focused on releasing the fingers holding my string. Its harder to do it split as it is 3 under but its doable. When you set your anchor touch your face with your pinky wherever it naturally is and focus on dragging that pinky and keeping contact with your face. It will condition that tendon in your hand to separate on that release so that you are putting most of your pressure on your index and middle and your pinky will sort of connect with the ring finger and you will reduce the pluck. It also behaves as an additional anchor point to keep you from doing unnecessary movements and keeps you in the same direction of your release. I dont think you struggle with those things but it helped me a lot. Basically dont open the pinky on release either have it open when you draw or when you come to anchor drag it on your chin / neck whatever is the contact point.

Hey try a hill glove with inserts or American leather with inserts I have both if your first joints don’t line up it will help and you don’t fill much of the string if that’s a issue for you .

Tried those gloves with inserts. They are a fast and smooth release for sure. But for me I need more feel on the string. But no denying those gloves with inserts in the finger stalls are wicked fast and smooth release.

I think you can have a crisper, more consistent release, off the tips of you fingers with less chance of the string deflecting off to the side, BUT I cannot hold on to a traditional bow string at full draw for very long. In addition, like you said, it is more painful. I use a heavy hook at the 2nd knuckle grooves, and I can hold for an extended period of time, 10 seconds or longer, and have full control of the release without feeling like i have to let it go prematurely due to finger fatigue. I like the finger tab as well. I wanted to shoot the archer's glove, but just never could maintain a consistent release without an occasional string pluck. I can shoot mechanics gloves, but they are not as comfortable as a finger tab. Man your bow is quiet.

Yep I'm with ya. Don't much like shooting off the tips and don't like a shooting glove either.

I was going to say same thing, my dad is a medium to deep hook jus past first knuckle in more or in finger joint he locks string in fingers pinching in finger join and my dad he does fine. I hook right in first knuckle bend as normally I am normally grabbing with a pre bent finger and do fine needing such a spot or if having issues going about same as my dad if I am sticking the string in finger joint. However, my brother he will be pulling just a bit past that highest point on most people's fingertips becuse he likes to let string slide off his fingers yet not slide fully off early as what will happen a majority of the time if he is further out somehow going sans a tab or glove because he has 0% control otherwise. My brother would need a tab so thin it would only last 100--500 pulls if that needing a very thin outermost layer smooth side out of leather tab or some kind of super thin pressed smooth grain leather like some very cheap genuine leather.

All that proves exactly what the key point was. There is no right or wrong way and everyone will have a different hook on the string.

I've never really looked at how my fingers pull on the string. I believe it's at the medium range though. The structure of your hand and fingers will determine your type. I have a 5/8" difference between my index and middle finger grooves. This will also determine where your elbow ends up at full draw (level or high). Go with what works and feels the best.

I think that's what's comfortable for most people. Is for me. But like you saw in the video they all shoot about the same and don't change impact much. So whatever way works best for someone is the best for them. And they are not gaining or loosing anything by doing it one way or the other.
