I can't believe I watched this either. Just to share my experience ,that a hose gets hardened and loses its pliabilty overtime if left under the sun . So what I do is I keep my hose in the garage away from direct sunlight after each use and I'm happy to report that the cheap hose is still in a very good condition after more than 5 years.

I learned this from a friend of my dad's that used to be a roadie for various rock and country bands. It's how they roll up all the mic, amplifier, and power cables. It's fantastic when you throw a length of cable across a space and it unwinds itself without kinking. Very satisfying.

I could have done with this practical advice six months ago when I bought my new 30m hose. I have since bought a hose cart and its now much easier as it winds back onto the drum nice and straight. This must also be useful for electricity extension cables, some of mine are badly twisted inside the outer insulation. I feel a little stupid that I didn't discover this truth on my own. Useful video, thanks for posting. Good teachers like you are a boon to us.

This is an old Navy/mariner rope throwing method, and you may also see figure 8 being used with very large ropes for big ships. Over under method works just as well for extension cords, ropes, guitar leads, steel cable etc. I ask people/customers to not roll up my hoses and extension cords for me when I'm finished on site, as 'I have a special technique to avoid tangles' and it's also the quickest and neatest method. When I played in a band, I used to pack up all the other muso's guitar leads, and all the audio and mic leads etc with this over under method, and they couldn't work out how the leads never tangled up next time we used them🤣👍

I use the figure 8 method. Picked it up from my years as an electrician, when we would pull cable off huge reels in preparation for large cable pulls. If you want it to take up less space for storage, put a strap around each end of the 8, then fold one half of the 8 over onto the other half. When ready to use it, unfold the halves.

73 years too late! Thanks ans congratulations on a super-helpful video production. This is a truly simple and effective solution to prevent tangles, especially for long, 75 to 100 foot, hoses. Simple, clear video, right to the point early in the video. In my mind's eye, this solution may even apply to electrical wiring, especially heavy guage, being prepared for pulling into conduit, haven't tried on wiring but will do next time. Your hose method is a true winner! Thanks again.

Do You have possibility to leave your hose by the plants, do holes in the hose by every plant & just turn the water on.. ❓Or get a hose with "sweating pores", that releases drops slowly to the plants... 👍 Blessings 🙏🕊️🌟

I feel like you should be a strong candidate for a peace prize! I'm not even joking! Someone hits the road happier after a job now because the job went easier & they didn't have to do a wild hose winding rodeo...maybe it makes for less anger out there? Thank you very much sir!

I usually watch videos like this with 2x playback speed and click through the progress bar to find "the point" and close the video before it reaches the end. But this one, I watched it with regular playback speed, no skipping or jumping ahead, and I watched all 7:15 of the entire video, finished educated and satisfied. Thank you so much for sharing, and I look forward to watering my plants when I get home.

I learned this in sailing. First time I have seen this outside sailing knots, etc. I have tried to teach people this and no one seems to get it. Hopefully more people get it now, because it definitely prevents any line from not only kinking, but have a memory of being in a knot. Yes, you do have to pull from the top, but that's what it is meant for.

Another trick that I have learned is if your extension cords or hoses do get a kink in them you can tie a weight on one end of them and then suspend them from a high height longer than the length of your cord / hose. This will be hard for most people to do but most of the time I was working in high-rise buildings and we would take the cords excetera and hang them down through the fire Towers so it was nothing too hang them 50 to 100 ft over the weekend and believe or not it would straighten them out. And you wouldn't have to yell at The Apprentice anymore

Been using the Over & Under method for over 30 years in photo and video business for AC extensions, etc. Always thought pressure washer hoses and garden hoses were too thick for the Over & Under. Thanks for giving me a good thump on the back of my head to re-allign my thinking marbles.

Glad you enjoyed it. Yep it was the fact that I kept blowing out pressure washing hoses that made me look for a way to roll them with out twisting them all up. I now use it for my cords and everything. Even ropes.

I adopted the over and under a few years ago after using the over and over. In regards to water hoses, it helps if they are kink free.

Great video! I am following the same technique for years not only for my garden hose but also for all kinds of power cords, vacuum cleaner power cord, electrical cables or anything long and flexible. I am very happy to find someone else who has discovered the same thing. The way you use a strap for carrying a hose is very clever and new to me. Thanks for sharing.
