Thanks, Brian! It's good to see the reality of how these guns shoot...even when they don't work at first. You know your stuff.

You said a mouth full. A flintlock is a different animal. I just bought one and the " flinch " lock is half the battle. After 4 wild ones my Traditions Pennsylvania was dead on out of the box. Love the flintlock.

Since we have this ammo shortage, it's affected my hunting. Im in the process of learning about primitive weapons. I think I'd like to try a flintlock out. My only issue is I'm a south paw LOL. I do own an inline but it's difficult to find the 209 primers because of both Covid and the political climate. I think it would be more rewarding and challenging.

Thanks for the video Brain. In my opinion, flintlocks aren't hard. They're just meticulous to load properly and safely. Just follow safe procedures, use common sense, and folks should be ok. 🙂. If in doubt, don't do it and ask questions. Anyway, safe shooting. 😁
@kodiakfarmsbrianhoadley81522 жыл бұрын
Exactly there not difficult, if your the type that don’t wanna take the time and learn your firearm, stay with cartridges 😂. My flintlocks always fire just fine
@woodsbikes61302 жыл бұрын
@@kodiakfarmsbrianhoadley8152 that's right. I have an inline now which wasn't hard to learn. But want to add a couple traditional styles to my collection too. 🙂

@1106652 жыл бұрын
I ALWAYS use a pick to shove the pan powder into the touch hole. .99.9 percent of the time it will fire. A good flintlock will fire as fast as percussion.

I started shooting muzzleloards just a few years ago and have been confused on between using 2F or 3F with my 50 cal Woodsmen. I've been using 2F (90g) for deer hunting. How much of difference is there between using 2F and 3F with the 50 cal?
@kodiakfarmsbrianhoadley8152 Жыл бұрын
The .50 is considered the middle of the road for which one you should use, I use 3 fff and have found it “felt” better lol, the ignition felt faster and more reliable. It shot more consistently which improved accuracy. Def try them both every gun and shooter are different

Where did you get the neat rifle stand (holder)? Simple, but effective.
@kodiakfarmsbrianhoadley81522 жыл бұрын
My dad and uncle made them, super simple to make your own, just 3/8 or 1/2 rod with a angle iron welded to the bottom for a foot rest and heat the top up with a torch and bend a 90 and a U shape

More of a habit lol, I do it to settle the powder level in the pan so it is at the sunset position of the flash hole

How many grains of fff do you use in the pan?
@kodiakfarmsbrianhoadley81522 жыл бұрын
I don’t measure that, never seen anyone measure pan powder. You fill it to the just below the touchhole to start and level with the pan than adjust to the guns preference. You don’t wanna cover the touch hole though that will cause a delay to a complete missfire
@Nick-wn1xw3 жыл бұрын
Like you said they aren’t hard. If they were hard they would not have reigned supreme for well over 200 years with virtually no further developments-just refinements.

You mistakenly called your rifle a "percussion model" at around 0:50. Don't want to confuse your viewers that a flintlock and percussion (Caplock) are two different types of rifle.
