Great conversation! As someone who plays the guard & (oddly, the wing like JJ & Reggie Miller did), I completely got all the references here. I think CP and John Stockton don't get enough credit; and AI doesn't get enough credit for his impact on defense (of course bigger guards like MJ and Kobe get all the credit but AI was in those gaps; something Trae can definitely improve on. He's not going to grow any taller but he can definitely get in those gaps and create transition offense). Nash was great but today he'd be more like a Fred Van Vleet, they basically do the same thing. Nash was just slightly ahead of his time. I really like this episode for guards. Bigs are probably not going to get much out of this, other than, run the breaks and show early. If you're a guard though, you have to understand the origin of these plays. Also, when JJ talks about him shooting over his left shoulder, you have to know what that is. For me, I love shooting over my right; because I can go over/under, draw a foul, step back, or just shoot fading away (like Klay does. LeBron occasionally too). Shooting over my left always feels uncomfortable because a good defender can just jump ahead. Going over my right though, that's crazy. I can just pick apart the defender off the dribble. I do agree with JJ though on the threes. 30 feet and in, I'm super comfortable. Past that though, that's like Steph, Dame, and Trae. I don't think anybody else is even close. Great convo, keep it coming. I really like this pod. Great for basketball fans like myself; and probably you guys too. This is the stuff kids need to know because, they need to watch Tony Parker, Gary Payton, John Stockton, Chris Paul, Steve Nash, Fred Van Vleet, AI, J. Kidd, Steph, and Chauncey; those guys are going to give you everything you need to be elite (watch JJ, Reggie, and Klay too, if you're a sniper). [Sorry, Trae, you have to pick your moments. That's what you need to improve on. In the Playoffs, you were too patient. You can't be patient in the Playoffs; look at Ja]

Podcasts like this are completely revolutionizing the fan experience. I always used to hate when athletes did interviews on sports talk shows because they would only give the most clichéd and vanilla answers, but on podcasts like this (and this is the best of ‘em IMO but there’s many others that are REALLY entertaining) the athletes are genuine, relaxed and most of all honest (I think). A huge thank you to everyone involved in putting these things together, I imagine it’s probably a lot more work than most of us viewers realize.

Easy. He's massively arrogant with no reason to be or anything to his name to back it up. For those saying Luka would’ve done better against the heat… I would love to see 4/5 Luka’s best players out or playing through horrible injuries vs the heat and have Luka play 1 on 5 vs the best defense in the league so you could eat those words… 1. Lou Will - Out all series injured 2. Bogdan - Played through a badly sprained ankle and had to sit game 5 3. John Collins - played through torn hand muscles and a fractured thumb (basically no value as a stretch 4/lob threat when his hand doesn’t work) 4. Capela - played 1 game all series and looked like a shell of himself with a badly hyper extended knee Before you speak ask yourself if you know the freaking context of what you speak of child. Go call the Hawks medical staff “salty” and tell me I’m not speaking the truth. Best pure point guard in the game besides arguably Steph and it’s not close. STOP THE UNNECESSARY TRAE HATE smh

As a Hawk fan been waiting for this one. Tough series against Miami, but still high on Trae. He's a smart player and will adapt... not many teams can completely take away the pick and roll the way Miami did that series, but as a team we really need to have a plan B in the halfcourt, not a good year by the coaching staff IMO.

I agree!! And Trae needs to get stronger in the upper and lower half of his body.

As a heat fan I respect trae a ton, came out and played his hardest against a really good defense, keep building around him, would of been harder if the hawks were healthy, very bright future

@@nickkostopoulos450 And I respect the Heat a ton. The defense you guys played was incredible. No one has been able to do what you guys did to Trae Young. Hope you guys make it to the finals and give the Warriors a run for their money.

JJ - the way you articulate, connect with former colleagues, coaches and current players is like nothing else in the basketball world. It's like you've brought to light what maniacal hoops fans have always been thinking is going on. This is awesome. Love the podcast.

so weird to think about Trae being bigger than most men you encounter on a daily basis at work or the store but he looks so small on the court with NBA players.

I love the points he made about comparison and recency bias amongst fans. Some people I’ve argued with can’t see past how a player previously performed and completely reject how a player currently shows up. That’s why many people have been incorrect about teams like the Miami heat, Boston and Dallas etc. recently. Many fans didn’t see these teams getting past the first rounds of playoffs but here we are 🤷🏾‍♀️
