Thanks for the review and comparison. Looking forward to the update on how it has performed for you. I'm on my second Traeger Texas and envy all those shelves and the digital controller. :)

Excellent review. I'm in Southern Arizona so I'm going to consider the Ironwood. That said, you keyed me into some great reasons to go with the Timberline if I were to face colder temps. Often when I grill or smoke, the outside temps range anywhere from 60 - 105 degrees so I don't think the lost heat or smoke from the reduced quality lid will matter much. Thanks again!

I have the Ironwood 885 and I’m thoroughly impressed with it. I solved that so called smoke leaking by going onto amazon and buying a gasket. I put it on the areas where the smoke was coming out and voila!!!!!!!!! I couldn’t justify the difference in price. Almost a thousand dollars!!!!!!! Price of gasket? 15 bucks!!!!! The only real difference between the 2 models is size . That bamboo cutting board? Fits the Ironwood as well. As for the shelf and insulated hood? Couldn’t care less. My food tastes incredible!!!! That’s what counts.

Great info, thanks for sharing. I've been in the market for a pellet grill for awhile. On the barrel, is it simply double wall constructed or is there actually an insulation barrier too? Also, do you know if the interior is 304 stainless steel?

FirebrewTV thanks! The barrel is double wall constructed no insulation barrier. Not sure on gage of metal.

of note, with the Timberline pellet level sensor. The unit pulls pellets from the bottom left corner of the hopper and that sensor is positioned just above that location. So, youll get false readings on actual pellet levels (since the pellets exit to the auger in a downward slope). I have determined that the only way to get a true reading of pellet level is to use my hand to move the pellets in the hopper until the top surface of them is level. If you do this, your reading will change.....and you wont be in as much of a panic to add pellets.

This very true and something I’ll mention in my follow up.

The pellet sensor is horrible. It’s useless on the 1300 I am always being alerted that pellets are almost out and then I look and the hoper is full

GREAT video!!! helpful. Question, how do you clean out the grease trap??? Is there a foil tray you can put in there? Or, do you just scoop out the grease somehow??? lmk. THANKS
@ThomasFrankOregon

there is a drawer the grease trap is in with a liner. Just pop out the liner and you replace it with a new one.

I cannot believe these things are $2k. Looks like they’ve come a long way with insulation, but i just cannot get over that price tag for something made in China. Its worth mentioning that my Yoder YS640S was $1799 and has over 1000 sq inches of grilling surface area, weighs 340 lbs, constructed with 7 ga. steel, has 2 probe jacks and Firewire tech and the ability to sear direct over flame. Not to mention made in Kansas, USA by hard working Americans working for a company that values them. I hope your traeger performs well for you, just my 2 cents here...

I was looking to get that Yoder or the Rec Tec and the only reason I didn't go for it was because I did not want to wait 2 weeks to get it. Mainly due to the fact that my profession requires me to have a smoker for clients that require that.

To each there own. We have four of my neighbors with the Timberline and they all swear by them, especially in the cold. I think I like the Timberline’s entire package better than than the Yoder. You can’t beat Traeger’s software and easy of use. My next door neighbor has a Yoder, he really likes it. For what we cook and how we want to cook, the Traeger is just better for us. They both do a very good job.

thing I have noticed about the evolution of the pellet grills is that by the time they have automated everything (timberline pellet supply sensor) you are so detached from grilling/smoking that you might as well grab your meal at your favorite bbq place

for people like me and others with similar schedules or families, these make entertaining a ten hour brisket or low and slower things 2-3 alot more easier. instead of being a slave to the pit for the most part you actually have some freedom depending on your unit. ones with wifi lets you work while you smoke while is amazing, being able to do inside carpentry without having to pop you head out every 1/2 to check up on the pit. simply open your phone check temps and keep swinging hammers.

@@winderfulllife8214 that was the whole reason I bought a Traeger in the first place. I bought the biggest Texas Elite model six years ago,...whatever model that is. I have had zero issues with it. It constantly gets used. I had a wood grill/smoker that I bought and only used it two or three times in two years. It basically sat in my backyard. I hated having to babysit it to make sure the temps were correct. Since I’ve had my Traeger,...I have no problem with cooking a couple of burger patties for lunch. The convenience is hard to look over when comparing to a wood grill/smoker.

Of all the things on the timerbline that I appeciate, the cutting board to me is the most senseless. Since you really should be letting your meat cool and rest (which isn't in the smoker), it doesn't make sense to have an outdoor cutting board on the smoker itself. Why cut on the smoker instead of on the table where your brisket will already be (indoors or an outdoor table)? Just doesnt make sense to me and feels like a bell added to justify the cost hike.
