Welcome to my channel! This is a music reaction channel. For the longest time, I've loved creating content on the internet. I started off with a gaming channel right here on KZfaq, which eventually turned into a Twitch gaming channel, but as time has gone on I've evolved into doing other things on KZfaq. For years now I've wanted to create a music channel on KZfaq, and recently just figured "why not?", so it’s time to give this a go! Give me any suggestion you have for music reactions, and I will do my best to get around to them. As music has fallen further out of my life, I figured this would be a great time to get reintroduced to music.
If you enjoy this video and my reactions make sure you subscribe to the channel, like the video and comment down below which video you would like to see me react to next.
This is a reaction video used to educate and give my feedback on the song and artists.

This and "Dear Mr. Fantasy" were their top songs. Certainly Traffic was a great, universally respected (enough so that even longer songs like this did receive a lot of airplay back then), but short-lived group. Winwood started in the music business at age 14 and was a huge boon to every band in which he participated. Winwood did play piano as well as keyboards, guitar, etc.

Might not have gotten top 40 airplay, but it was all over FM, and College Radio.

This was basically musical genius and keyboard (piano, moog, etc.) wizard Steve Winwood's dig at recording industry executives (the high-heeled boys). A topic you'll see revisited in more depth by Roger Waters on the Pink Floyd album "Wish You Were Here".

Bands of this time were known to wear high heel boots. The sounds are not claps but sparks. Song is about the big suits running the music industry.

Jim Capaldi was on a bender at a resort on the Med in N. Africa with actor Michael J. Pollard, who was clip-clopping around the pool in his cowboy boots, and the handclapping sound is supposed to mimic that sound. When they departed the resort, Michael had left Jim a spiral notebook with all sorts of drawings, poems and verse, and the title of this song was scrawled across the front cover. FM (Frequency Modulation) radio stations were just coming into their own about this time, and would play these longer tracks that the AM stations would not. The clarity of FM exceeded AM by leaps, but are restricted in range to +/- 100 miles. This is the sort of recording that got a lot of FM airtime and cemented its success.

What is the low spark of high heeled boys referring to? “The Low Spark of High- Heeled Boys” is something actor Michael J. Pollard wrote to Jim Capaldi while both were traveling in Morocco. Traffic interpreted it to refer to the grassroots power of the counterculture, and the song's anthemic jam resounds as a mysterious tribute to the Woodstock generation.Sep 21, 2020

The song is about drug culture and the relationships between users and suppliers. Low spark is injection, and high heeled boy is speedball, a mixture of cocaine and heroin. The first verse is about shooting up. The second verse is about a dealer that got overdosed.

The guy who wrote the song was Jim Capaldi. If you were familiar with word on the street in London during the late 60's early 70's you would know that girl was a metaphor for cocaine. Boy was the metaphor for heroin. A high heeled boy was a mixture of cocaine and heroin sometimes known as a speedball. The syringe (or rig) is the gun that didn't make any noise. A lot of people have died from this dangerous combination of narcotics.

I love Traffic and I love this song. Many years ago I went to a Steve Winwood concert in Los Angeles when he was doing solo work, I think Higher Love was the big single at the time. It was a weeknight and the show was really late in starting. I was becoming agitated and thinking about just scrapping it all and going home because I used to get up at 4 a.m. to get ready for work. Just when I had had about as much as I could take, from a completely dark stage there was the sound of the piano and Winwood was opening his show with this song. Of course he was spectacular putting on a great show, I was so glad I didn't leave. That sound is clapping, you will hear that used in a lot of music from this time period. We didn't have a lot in the way of electronic instruments and no techno stuff yet so bands worked with what they had which was clapping and finger snaps as well as vocal sounds that sounded like kazoos, strings, etc. were used in a lot of recordings. Early Queen used a lot of stuff like that as well as thimbles on the mixing board to create sounds and a fan blowing through a tube for another ambient sound. This band was sort of a super group, incredible musicians, each of them, all at the top of their field. Its a real piano. There is a shorter version of this song that did indeed, get airplay. Thank you for your reaction.

Traffic is Epic...this song is great! To me it’s an anthem for the British Invasion! High Heeled boys is the shoe that the Beatles wore, they were an English riding boot! They had riding heels. It ain’t about drag! 🤨😎🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Winood is a genius. Was in Spencer Davis Group (I'm A Man) in the '60s at age of 16. He is timeless..check out Higher Love..Light Up Or Leave Me Alone.. Roll With It and Can't Find My Way Back Home (Blind Faith)

Love the sound of that, what is it? Sounds like a Hammond organ hooked up with a circular saw. Why nobody, including Traffic, has run with that since is a mystery. Makes my soul perk up. It's filthy! This did get some airplay late at night when I was still in high school and the only lights in my room were the glow from my Harmon Kardon receiver. How could a young boy sleep when this was blowing into your ear-balls followed by The Chambers Brothers "Time Has Come Today"? Notice how the hand claps come on the off-beat, but not every. I love that!

I cannot be sure, but I think the sound you speak of is either Chris Wood, playing his Sax through some kind of Distortion or even a Leslie Speaker, or else it is Winwood doing some hard processing of his Electric Keys. I have always gone with option A, because theres a couple of runs in there I think would only be possible to hit on a Sax.

@@Jimi-DV good to hear from somebody with a bit of technical instrumental expertise. The saxophone has a supernatural kinship to the human voice. It can be guttural and nasty or sweet and pure. But humans struggle to go subverbal, a laughable embarrassment of making a splat when freeing their imaginations. A saxophone has none of that prejudice or self absorption. If it bleats, so be it. Listen to "West of Hollywood" by Steely Dan. The second half is transcendent.

My childhood. Better version on One From the Road live. Sometimes I Feel So Uninspired has some of the best Stevie guitar on vinyl. Great song! Almost tears me up...as in wet eyes Edit: Chris Wood uses a wah wah on the sax. Here's the Santa Monica 72 where Stevie's pupils are huge...tripping hard and jamming the green reverse Firebird...I think. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pcmahsZo256XoJ8.html Used to work w his bro in law at the RX at the VA in Memphis in the 80s
