I also wonder if another theme is a sort of emotional and personal (the self) bankruptcy. I have noticed more than ever people have low emotional intelligence, communication challenges, reduced sensitivity and developmental challenges (poor mental health, identity formation, sexuality and so on). People are in devoid and it shows. Our macro community's behaviors, functioning and norms have evolved (social media has definitely influenced this change) and likely is contributing to the disturbing climate of our current society. How we connect and understand ourselves, others and the world around us.

This could be a twisted way the girls deal with existential crisis in our modern age. Pretty shocking since they are finding that meaning through brutal murder, but hey...it beats volunteering to feel "special" or taking a road trip and "finding yourself," (seriously I know everyone finds meaning and fulfillment in different ways and they are all valid, I am just jesting).

I'm sorry but I will have to disagree. This is not imagination and creativity or a good use of it anyway. As a viewer I don't know whether I should be horrified or laughing with them. It leaves their audience confused and that is clearly not the aim of the movie. This is not a horror movie, there's no suspense just confusion. This isn't a crime movie either, well it doesn't fit into that category. The only mysterious thing about the movie is the director and writers of this movie. Just because I don't like this movie doesn't mean I'm asking for censorship. Lastly, the characters carry the movie. You cannot have a movie with no characters. The characters are boring and annoyingly idiotic and the movie seems to be like that too.

No need to be sorry, but the creative part is probably just subjective. I was comparing genres not to say this was those genres but comparing how gruesome those categories can be and it carries just as much weight as this movie. It seems my comment wasn't towards you because I was really aiming at the people screaming "muh the children," but it's impossible and irrational to have a world that cater's to children. It's up to parents to teach and choose when they can safely expose their children to violence, and how to react/think about it. What would we be without these creative freedoms? And lastly I think even the worst characters can carry the movie, movies don't need to support the characters, it can be against them. If the characters personalities don't add to much I think their actions and demise are the selling point of this movie. This type of movie probably caters to a very certain audience that I'm apart of.

What's there to be confused about, really? It's obviously satirical. I reckon that you're not the target demographic of this movie, so much of the intended dark humor of it would go above your head. It's meant to criticize the lengths our generation of teenagers would go to just to achieve virtual, nonsensical approval from a bunch of strangers on the internet.

aquariuspj25 I think it fails at being satirical by having an over ambitious plotline and actors that lack comedic timing. You have to be really well-trained to make this movie work. I think the theme is confusing because I don't think it achieved its set goal. I have seen similar themes done in the theatre and it's really incredible. However, this one seems bland

Then the two girls catch the serial killer and I'm guessing they killed him? Idk what they did with him, but after they catch him they start to kill people to keep the podcast going so they get more fame

They actually kill cause they are sociopaths, like if they were normal they would probs just angrily tweet. But they girls are actually insane. You can tell when they kill josh with no emotions which these killers are famous for. Being able to kill without being scared or regretting. It’s quite scary because they have the ability to act like nothing happened and are smart enough to hide evidence until something snaps.

Yes it reminded me too of the slanderman story, how two friends decided to kill one day.. I always wondered in this story how 2 girls went from normal to psychos just because of an internet fiction. The two friends planned together to kill one of their friends in a very cruel way and both lived in normal families (like no abusive parents) ... This slander man story still fascinates me
