Felt bad for Henley? Wow. Randy Meisner, Don Felder , Timothy Schmidt were the most laid back members of that band. Don and Glenn ran things and no negotiating at all. Randy said he was glad to get out , all the arguing. All of them wrote great hits but most of Don and Glen's got recorded. Too much drugs and egos .

Frey and Henley would have been great no matter who made up the Eagles. Two extremely talented guys who fell victim to their success. Not all that uncommon. I just thank God that they left us with some of the greatest music in history. I recall, decades ago, listening to Art Bell interview Joe Walsh on Coast to Coast. They talked about ham radio (apparently Joe was into it and, of course, Art Bell was passionate about it) up through his time with the Eagles. I recall Joe commenting, calling them "The Egos." He avoided elaborating and did not make disparaging remarks about the rest of the band.

Felder wrote MOST of the music, but not all of it. Be serious, do you really think Joe Walsh needed Felder to write his music? Now add to this that Henly and Frey wrote the words, not Felder, and the words is the most important aspect of this song.
@user-py9kj2nu7h
@user-py9kj2nu7h 16 күн бұрын
Felder may have written Victim of Love, but he couldn't get the lyrics down even after a week or so with Felder repeately trying. All of the music was already recorded, they just need the vocals. Then yes, Irving Azoff took Felder to lunch and told him that Henley was recording the song as they ate. But the music is a business too, and they have deadlines to meet. It's not like they just decided to take the song away from him for chuckles. So far as Henley and Frey getting the most of the proceeds, sure they did. They did the lion's share of the responsibilities. Why shouldn't they get the biggest amount of money? The saddest part of this is if Felder had just accepted the new structure like Walsh and Timothy B Schmidt did, he would would have made more money in the long run.

@@negativeindustrial That original greatest hits album came out right before HC. In some ways HC has overshadowed their earlier work, but the success of that original greatest hits record attests to how great it was. Then Joe Walsh joined and they did HC which began a new era for the band. Unfortunately by then all their problems got so bad they only made one more album before breaking up. After they reunited they put out more good music, and subsequent greatest hits collections include songs from their entire career. according to Felder the comment was taken out of context. Felder contends he said it to the senator's wife who thanked him but he hadn't met her yet and wasn't sure who she was. Frey felt it was said sarcastically because he knew Felder wasn't happy playing free for the benefit. Either way it resulted in a 14yr break up

If it wasn't for Don Felder the Eagles would still be a second rate country rock back up band. No Joe Walsh no Hotel California nobody would care. The way Randy and Don were treated they should be ashamed of themselves.

When an addict in sobriety says, "There must be a God. Because I would not have survived otherwise," I hope it will one day dawn on them that that statement shits on the graves of the addicts who did not survive as well as their forever grieving loved ones.

What happened with the senator is he is a politician and someone like Felder does not like politicians because left of right they are full of shit. Frey was sucking up to the senator and Felder was bending the typical rebel and Frey did not like that. I personally believe rock stars should not suck up to Politicians ever. They can agree with them on some things but don’t be a pushover as they are all full of it.

Felder was a brilliant guitarist and extremely talented. But it was common knowledge that Fry, and Henley flew the eagles and everyone knew it. But Henley and fry had to prove it even to themselves. Fry went out and did a solo successfully , as well as Henley and both knocked it out of the park. Joe Walsh was already proven when they picked him up of COURSE there not going to respect Felder the same. There solo successes only solidified there past decisions they made. Hell even Timothy B Schmitt jumped up and wrote and sang 'I can't tell you why" enough for Fry, and Henley to see damn he's for real like us.

But Don Felder came up with the rif of their best song and the other two have always tried to take credit for it. And if it wasn't for Felder the Eagles would have remained a country rock middle of the road band. See how they haven't done anything since they kicked him out of the band. That is true.
@scottfree641

@@milt6208 I don't know if Henley and Fry tried to take credit for his skills , but if they did then your correct that's shitty. However there is a BIG difference between writing music and writing the music AND the lyric's a complete song. But they should have valued him more for sure. Every member has a particular skill to offer the band and they may have failed at acknowledging that to him I don't know. But as far as I know Felder never wrote entire songs on his own. I was under the impression that he was what I call the Icing man (lead playing for songs) like icing on a cake. And they could have used better communication skills to let them know that , that is what they needed him for and gave him credit for.
