I grew up just a few miles from Dalby and have been riding it since sometime around '93, long before the modern trails were built. Back then it was often axle-deep in mud so I never cease to be grateful to the Forestry Commission and Pace (whose HQ is just a few miles away) for collaborating to build the original trails. Since then it's gone from strength to strength and is great to see how popular it is. I thought your into was spot on. It's not somewhere I'd want to ride every weekend but every time I do ride there I really enjoy myself. It definitely rewards XC fitness and it can be quite a mission trying to set a PB for the whole red route. My favourite part of the red route is the last third of the loop. The single-track is fast and flowy, there are some good downhill sections and the forrest is at its prettiest. Loving the new GoPro but sympathise with your frustrations. I've a 6 Black and recently worked out that the wind mic just doesn't work. Googled it and turns out to be common problem. Another issue: had been working fine for months then just randomly would stop recording after 30s with storage error. Pulled the battery. Did it again. Pulled battery and formatted the card. Did it again. Gave up and bought new memory card that matched the official GoPro list of tested and approved cards and all seems so far. But for how long? Love the videos. Keep up the good work. Hope to bump into you one day out on the trails.

Another reason I like your GoPro chesty + Max lens view is it also gives a great idea of how you’re managing the bike. Remy Métailler uses this setup - as I’m sure you know - and it’s fascinating to see what he’s up to. I was surprised to hear your sweeping comment about emtbs. I feel sure, looking at your fitness, that you catch people up when it’s busy and politely ride past when it’s not going to interrupt their flow. Just as you did with that young family who you were very kind to. So, I’m certain you don’t have everybody in one pot in your mind. And I’ll not go on too much about about how an emtb has transformed my life, but it has.

Great video of Dalby, one of the best I’ve seen as it summarises the whole route nicely. In my opinion emtb’s have improved the Dalby experience vastly. As a local that has been using Dalby for many years on a regular mtb, you simply get fed up of all the pedalling. EMTB’s have put the fun back into Dalby and made it a pleasure to ride once again. It’s not EMTB’s that are killing the atmosphere, it’s Strava KOM chasers, always has been. If you catch someone up that is slower than you just be polite, ride behind them and overtake either at the end of the section or if they pull over themselves. Simple

Bought an ebike 18 months ago after nearly 3 decades of MTB all over the UK. Age is a bitch. It's the legs that go first. EMTB allows me to enjoy longer back to back rides over consecutive days. Just not realistic for me without. I'm one who 'gets' how much effort is being put in on the uphill sections and am happy to coast behind 'regular' MTBrs. No glory in achieving KOM on an e bike. Just sorry others don't see it the same way.

Really enjoyed Dalby last year. Definitely want to go back this year. Preferably on a drier day as it was pissing down last time. When i recorded it last year I noticed a few sections like the Gully where the camera takes a few seconds to adjust to coming out into bright light and yours is the same. I thought i'd messed up the settings but I think its because you're in and out of the woods so much. I'm also having a mare at the minute with the hero 8. Constantly having to take the battery out to reset. Thought it was just me! Great video as always mate, definitely a return trip this year. Glad you included some of those climbs in the vid too :-)

A great watch as always Andy, the GoPro Max footage is really good. It would be a dull old World if we all liked the same things though, and your passion for the place shone through in this video 👍

Dalby gets criticised on the bike forums for being too easy. The length of the red (22.5 miles), especially when you add the 4 mile world cup XC loop in, means it is a very good place for fitness. The people who slate Dalby are the lazy gits who wants downhills, gap jumps, and bike lifts. Dalby is for the old schooler who goes for fastest times. I thought it was absolutely brilliant and went twice a month, every month, then went to Gisburn, Cannock, or elsewhere in between. If you can do the full red in under 2 hours, you are of a decent fitness level.
