Very common failure on trailers, especially cheap trailers. This is the kind of things why you should avoid cheap trailers. Cracks, breakage, tear outs.

Thanks for the explanation of why you shaped that plate the way you did. Nice fix and while tempting to do it the 'right way', you had to oblige the customer and do only what they requested to fix. If they said to fix the other side too, I'm sure you would have done it right as you said it 'should' have been.. 👍

A good video to to enjoy with my glass of bourbon. I am always amazed how you can bend, fold cut or mutilate a made part and it fits. 🙂 Mine are always a wee bit off.

Solid wire or flux core ? What size wire ? looks like a miller welder, what model welder ? Just need to know before I tackle my rust repairs.

Any ok welder can get the job done. I prefer gas (mig) over flux core though. My machine is a milermatic 250. It is an older machine but has been very reliable and works well. The wire I typically run is solid .030" I believe, it might be .035" I'd have to look to see. When doing rust repair keep in mind the effected area is much larger than what you see. @@BILL-sb5kk For the typical home shop those 150-200 machines are plenty. I rarely even get close to 3/4 of what my machine can put out even on heavy materials like excavator buckets and cutting edges.

Hopefully the other side holds up somehow. The side that tore out is the side of the trailer that gets loaded. The other side basically just has to hold up the trailer itself. But I am sure over time it will crack too.

@@VPTfab I spent a lot of time pulling a 3 horse gooseneck trailer in my younger days. I believe you fixed the driver's side? Here in the U.S., a lot of the 2 lane roads will cause you to drop a passenger side wheel off the pavement on curves or when someone going the other direction passes. Almost always you hit a hole and it's jarring. Hard on the horses and hard on the trailer. Best of luck. I enjoyed the video and subscribed.

@@2old2rodeo Yes it was the driver's side and I said the same thing when the trailer was dropped off. But then it was explained to me that only the drivers side of the trailer gets loaded and it made a little more sense why that side broke over the passenger side. Not that it gets loaded heavy but I am expecting the tongue to develop some cracks because of how thin the frame is.
