I have used them. I have two springs on mine. They go week after a while.

Use a short piece of 1/2 “ pipe to capture the end of the spring....vertical with the leg of the spring inside the pipe.... spring should be centered axially with the pivot center of the gate..... I do like your style though..... very clean design

Try welding the bottom of the spring. It should be loading the spring as the gate comes down . The way it is , it’s loosing load as the spring rides down .

great idea, I think what your best option is to just ditch this idea and build your wife her very own trailer so this way you will have a His and Hers !!!! This would make another great video for you to make, And keep the wife happy. Like they say " Happy Wife Happy Life." keep those vids coming !!!!!!!
