The Ava Bridge (Burmese: အင်းဝတံတား) is a 16 span riveted steel truss bridge between Ava and Sagaing, Mandalay, Myanmar (Burma). It was built by the British in 1934. The bridge was partially destroyed by the retreating British Army during World War II and repaired in 1954. It was the only bridge to span the Irrawaddy River until recent times, when a spate of bridge construction has been carried out, including the new Irrawaddy Bridge, which can be seen in the distance in the video.
The passanger train traveling northewst across the bridge had recently left Mandalay Station. The train comprised four railcars, Nos. RBE 3043, RBE 3053, RBE 3056 and RBE 3031, which I belive are all Kiha 48 railcars manufactured, between in 1982, for the Japanese State Railways non-electrified routes, by Niigata Ironworks Fuji Heavy Industries. With the introduction of the introduction Kiha 25, in 2015, these railcars were scrapped and transferred to Myanmar Railway. Once in Myanmar they were renumbered and remodelled, with alternations to door steps, handrail installation and removal of the ventilator on the roof.
