Train dog to not tear up carpet

This is a gme we created for kleo to teach her that digging and chewing up carpet is not acceptable behavior. All behaviors can be learned or unlearned through the proper use of structured play and observation by the handler or trainer. This game was created to show kleo the problem with chewing the carpet and the value of not doing that behavior anymore.
No treats are used in this or any of my other methods. Treats are useless and only serve as shortcuts that excite the dog and lead to health issues.

Thanks for showing your realism in training and the extreme patience you need along with the hundreds of failures you get before seeing results and improvement. It honestly reassures me. You may think this video was boring and too long but it honestly made me feel more confident in how i am as a owner to a puppy. Most videos only show immediate results with an already conditioned dog.

Thank you for this one! It helps a lot. I have "issue" with my 5months Lagotto Romagnolo, so picks up good commands very fast , 5-6 commands in 4,5 days which is impressive. However when I work (and I work from home 9-5) after morning walk she always chew my carpet for at least 30-40 minutes and then go to sleep. So she start chewing I get up from my chair say NO to her, she release it and as soon as I sit she starts doing it again. The morning time is when I have couple of meetings so I cannot really additionally play with her after 1 hour morning walk. Any advices? Kind regards

was she previously trained to respond to the clicker or did you just start to use it right then for the carpet. having the same trouble with my puppy but she is not trained to respond to a clicker.

It’s not a clicker and yes they were trained to understand and respond to the training collar for a while before this session

My dog is 4, we got him last year, we think he was treated bad by previous owners, but hes a very kind and sweet dog, the only problem is he shreds things with his teeth. He chews up any blanket we give him, he has chewed up my bedding, he has chewed the corners of rugs. This is costing me a lot to replace there thing's constantly and he does all this ONLY while im sleeping, so i have never been able to catch him in the act. I hate getting mean when i haven't caught a dog in the act and they may not know what im upset about. So idk what to do about this issue. No fabric is safe So i have to sit objects on the corners of rugs before bed so he hopefully wont chew them. I have ti make sure no blankets are hanging off my bed at all while i sleep and i hace to take off bedding during the day and store it away.. Cause he will noy destroy if im awake and around him. Only when im gone or asleep.
