Thanks James. I might post one more cab ride next month. It's a 45 minute SD70M-2 clip, but the locomotive had been in a wreck, and the sound is terrible as everything is bent, bolts are missing and welds are broken. ( Rattles like a GE :P ) I love the lighting as the sun is low behind the locomotive. I guess people could mute it if the rattle bothers them. I'll decide over the next couple of weeks. Good to hear you got back up and running. Computers can be a real pain.

Thanks for sharing this great video. Just came across it in my feed. Kinda cool how you can see the cab isolation working when you look at the tip of the locomotive nose. Had me wondering what was going on until I remembered these units have cab isolation. I was a conductor for CSX in Michigan in the late 90s. We used to run CP Rails trains from Montreal to Chicago via the Windsor Tunnel with the ubiquitous SD40-2s. Lost the traffic to NS a few years later, shamefully. I've loved the Canadian Railroads ever since! Best scenery anywhere, especially the Canadian Rockies 🤤. Can't wait to watch more of your content. New subscriber!

Thanks @AtlasShrugged123. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I recorded my last year before retiring in 2016, and am slowly getting it shared. I sure miss the sound of the trains pulled by the SD40-2's. If you scroll down on my page, there are a few channel links which may interest you. LSTM is with CN and posts videos in the Rockies. He only posts videos for a limited time. Life of a Train Driver is with CP and also has some videos posted from the Rockies

Hi, this is a very impressive video of the vastness in Alberta, a province I had come to know in 1984 when I visited my cousin near Lamont. It is the first cab ride I do in Canada. Therefore I would like to ask, why basically before each level crossing the macrophone must be pressed several times, even if far and wide no soul is to be seen. I understand that it has to be actuated where the signal sign is located. But that it is needed four times when no one is endangered seems illogical to me. Many greetings from Königstein im Taunus, Germany - stay healthy and enjoy your retirement!
@CanadianrailroadsCa
@CanadianrailroadsCa 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Enno. Lamont is on the Vegreville Sub.. I have a couple of videos posted on that subdivision, but nothing for Lamont. Transport Canada sets the crossing rules, and sounding the horn is mandatory, regardless of traffic. There are bell only crossings, but they require crossing gates, fencing, and the municipality must accept liability and hold special insurance to cover crossing accidents.
@ennohund9515
@ennohund9515 2 жыл бұрын
@@CanadianrailroadsCa thanks so much. I almost expected your explanation with the horn after watching another video. It reminds me of home in Germany, where everything is also so (over-)regulated. I always find the long container trains with the double-stark wagons very impressive. There isn't something comparable except on the North American continent, as far as I know.
@CanadianrailroadsCa
@CanadianrailroadsCa 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Enno. I can remember back in the 90's they were raising bridges west of Calgary to accommodate the new double stacks. Now it's the train length getting bigger. Shortly after I retired, the government approved trains up to 16500' or just over 3 miles ( 5 KM ). The longest I ever handled was 14300'. Merry Christmas.

@CanadianrailroadsCa
@CanadianrailroadsCa 3 ай бұрын
Hi Mason, that's an eastbound, so maybe it was a 304, but it was 10 years ago, so that's just a guess. 347's were westbound empties. They were always a tough pull as the centerbeams, also known as sail boats, really grabbed the wind.
