With a history dating back to the 1840s, what is operated today as the Fife Circle Line was built by multiple companies. Over time, lots of branch lines started to appear in both the regions of Fife and Lothian. However, there is one key obstacle which prevented the lines from initially joining up: the Firth of Forth, a mile-wide estuary north of Edinburgh.
Construction of the almighty Forth Bridge in 1890 changed everything. Spanning over 8000 ft, the cantilever bridge carried the railway high above the water and opened a vital connection between north and south. This led to the linking of lines via the coast, which itself is an extension of the East Coast Main Line, as well as the “loop line” which splits off at Inverkeithing and Kirkcaldy, via the city of Dunfermline.

Grew up in Fife and still use the trains often around all these areas. Have to say these are spot on and quite surreal to see. Sure theres so rough edge but some of the detail theyve included is crazy

The telegraph poles at Turnhouse at the end of the main Edinburgh airport runway are part of a 'tripwire' system linked to the signalling. There are wires across the top of them and in the event of the wire being cut by an aircraft landing or on take off the signals on either side turn to danger.

I suspect the addition of the Levenmouth extension when it comes in June (as it will in real life) will be used as a way to remodel this

Thanks for the video Tom, I'm really torn on this one as between the Fife Circle and Goblin, I wanted the Fife Circle (fed up of yet another London route) and had been looking forward to it. I've seen a lot of blowback on the forums which is off-putting but your video I think balances it out a bit, it isn't a bad route but does need some polish here and there. I prefer driving in the 80s so am picky with modern era routes, the 170 would be a nice addition personally but I would hope someone would eventually layer in 150s and the 158 when that arrives. I really like those seal plushies because I'm a softie, I'll end up buying it but maybe in a week or so once we see how thins pan out :)

Thank you for watching! Its a tough one, this route is certainly not unplayable by any stretch of the imagination. Its not on the same level as GOBLIN for scenery density and detail but its got enough to keep you going currently. We just have to hope it gets some extra time set to it to pull it to where it should be. Mainly extra scenery in terms of foliage detail, updated shaders to be in line with the new stuff and other building detail where its a bit bland. The timetable really is the main one that needs to have the extra work put in as currently its all very quiet.

Its the best way, and even though there are clear issues, we fairly show this as at the end of the day we like to do this as a form of feedback that we hope Rivet may see and take on board :)

Great video Tom . Interesting to get your views on the route as it does feel very rushed . Think you may have hit the nail on the head withe the financial year thing . When have we ever had two UK routes in a week !!!!! It is a great route but needs a lot of polishing in so many areas . Hopefully this will come like the MML route .

Thank you, Its not unheard of to see routes release close to one another especially when its separate developers. Probably wouldnt see DTG release two routes a week apart themselves. Time will tell if the extra polishing gets done though.

Hi Tom, are you running the game at medium settings as there is a lot of scenery pop-in and occassional stuttering like it is running on a GTX 1080, I have it running on a RTX 4060 with an i7 processor and it runs really smooth here.

I feel this route needs a MML-like update for it to be worth the full price of admission. I’m not paying a route price for the Class 170 alone. However, Rivet’s promises tend to hold less weight than a piece of paper, so I’m waiting to see if they follow through their words with action! I’ll either purchase the route on a 50% or more discount in a future sale, or if Rivet actually put the work in to give it some needed improvements.

Dovetail, Rivet Games and whoever else is contributing routes and DLCs to Train Sim World 4 all have to make a strong effort to implement the lighting from the head lights of the locos inside the tunnels and at night. Specifically, the actual rails on the tracks need to reflect this light and the light inside the tunnels is too, too, dark. This I have seen in many routes and DLCs and should be addressed especially in the real life it would be a hazard to operate a train without the proper lighting in the evening or in the tunnels. For the most part, the lights should be bright - really bright just like in real life.

For me Goblin Line is a firm 9/10 for me. This route is a 2/10 the timetable is abysmal, the scenery isn't finished, popping in trees and vegetation is not acceptable in 2024, boats/ships and planes missing, didn't hear any announcements. Clearly the route needs another 3 months work to finish it. For anyone that is looking to pick up a new route, definately spend your money on the Goblin Line!

Goblin is top tier without a doubt. A true triumph, this route however sadly has the potential of been up there too. It really needs some work doing to get it where it should be. I just hope we can see that time dedicated to fixing the wrongs.

I really like this one. I was not expecting a lot of action, since some routes are kinda dull scenery wise. Take Sherman Hill e.g. Still there are some things Rivet should fix asap. Cheers☺

I'm not a TSW fan but its a shame we have no 7 City HST,No 66s,No 37s or even 158s on this? Feels sooo empty this is why I can't see TSW ever been on the same level as TSC :(

Because nobody as attempted to use the editing tools to do a inter7city, and rivet aren't a massive studio. They can't make every train for a release

Just to shadow on what others have said. The class 158 is coming from Skyhook Games in the Scotrail Livery in the near future. Its been announced already along side the route announcement. As for the Inter7City HST. There is no suitable option, it would require a lot of work to be done such as reworked Mk3s with sliding doors and more. Class 66 ideally should of been ready available as layering in the timetable along with maybe the 37 if it had anything suitable to run. Hopefully the latter two will come maybe in an update in due course.

As you say Tom it's a route that deserved a bit more TLC. Unfortunately given how West Cornwall Local has been left in the state it is I personally have little hope much will be done. I've had a bit of overtime at work this month but neither this route or Goblin appeals (even in a sale). Luckily there's a BOGOFF sale on DLC's on Xbox. Although I already own most of the TSW titles offered I might pick up HRR and the DB BR101.

Hopefully Rivet have a rethink on the stance of going back to update the route as it really needs that bit more. Its an iconic route. You can see the time and effort put around the forth bridge. It just needs that applying in other areas.

I thought the announcements would be continus. Announcing next stop etc. also do you know how to reactivate the name of the thing you are hovering over like reverser, wipers etc. as mine is deactivated?

@@simonkalavazides6422 You go into the options and you look for it? There's not many options, it'll be under gameplay or control, and would take less than three minutes to check out all the options. I'm not being rude, and I apologize if it comes off that way I just don't understand where the confusion was, where else did you think a setting would be outside of the options?

Hi Tom, Bescot here. Thanks for a honest appraisal. Do you think the grass foliage pop in is due to using older materials with poor LODs? For me this is sale fodder, tbh - I don't fancy creating a re-vamp mod for a route that came out in 2024, and in places looks far more sparse than some TSW2 routes, with some building assets placed half buried in hillsides! What is going on with the plain, noiseless terrain too? The 170 is quite decent, used to sign these as a guard and the physics are good. Gameplay 97 services, and I think half of those are the 1 minute shunt moves. I might purchase eventually if changes are made to the route/gameplay aspects. I can imagine this getting boring very quickly.

Hey Bescot! Thank you for watching, glad its been helpful. The pop in could be to do with LOD settings. We upped the LODs on the trackside grass for Blackpool. However the stuff that grows when you get closer to it is a form of terrain paint based foliage. You should not be expected to revamp a new route so early on either :) Lets hope rivet put some more time into sorting these issues. The 170 model is lovely and cannot fault that at all, its very solid! The audio in areas is a bit rough and just needs a bit of TLC i think. Its a huge improvement on the 150 we all know and love... The lack of services really needs looking at. Not to mention extra stuff like tours or any freight we may be accustom to seeing on that route.

I have noticed the lagging and stuttering during your review, i always thought that it was my PC that was causing this issue when i play it obviously not. It seems that other people have this issue too and it spoils the experience for me. It is version 4 now and DTG have still not fixed the performance of this game.

Yeah i still think there is some room for improvement on the sounds. Not quite sure what it is but they need a but more grunt. If you listen to the AP 170 Enhancement video you can see the differences.

what is your graphic settings i have a 3060 gpu and i710700kf cpu 64 gb ram and it seems to struge in high and above

All settings on max where possible. Screen percentage is left at 100 and max FPS is capped to 60. PC specs are in the channel description.

I think the route looks weirdly empty. The TSC versions of the route are much better populated with AI trains, even if they are not always appropriate. As I said on your other Fife Circle video, the route looks okay, but not quite. I can see things that are not there IRL, or just don’t look right. The bus in the car park at Inverkeithing is a prime example. I know from using that car park that it wouldn’t fit down the access ramp! 😂 It looks just a wee bit of a disappointment. It doesn’t make me want to get TSW 4. 😢

Steam releases at 10am PST. Around 6PM normally for us over in the UK. Consoles get it at 10am UK Time

Not wanting to be negative, but there are issues with this route (especially the inaccurate bright green trees) that are putting me off getting this. Yours sincerely Disappointed of Kirkcaldy.

I have a feeling the trees are not using the newer shaders that we have seen in recent releases since Peak Forest. Not a hard job to fix either. Hopefully this can be addressed to give some variation.
