"When switching from idle a sound is heard which is reminiscent of the scale of a tenor saxophone. It comes from the three-phase motors by controlling the power inverters. The audible noise is twice the frequency of the pulse-controlled inverter, which is gradually increased." I'll just leave this here, found it on wiki and translated it in google. It also states that the successor model of this train does not do that anymore.

Two green lights on the big signal posts means max speed of 60. Two yellow lights on the small posts means a speed limit of 60 is coming up. You taught me that on the Three Countries series :)

Paul, German and Austrian locos have a system called LZB, basically it's track to cabin speed limits. In TS you enable LZB by pressing Ctrl + Numpad + And then you activate LZB intervention by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Numpad + The Taurus engine I read that it makes the sound because it uses frequencies on its motors

The noise the engine makes is from the different stages of power, our subway here in Montreal does something similar. Depending on the frequency, it makes an audible sound as it goes.

I'll be staying just up the road from Reichenau next week, and a trip on the Semmeringbahn is on the cards. There's an excellent cable-car to the top of a fairly large (1800m) mountain about two miles from there. Rax seilbahn. The scenery is absolutely gorgeous in the summer time. I was there in June last year. It was bloody scorching hot! :o) Thanks for the vid.

Austria has the habit of having speed limits on signals as well, so you'll get either 2 yellow and one green/ yellow and green (40) or one yellow and 2 green/ 2 green (60), the thing, where you thought it was a signal to warn you of a line change, is called "Signalnachahmer" it's used to tell the driver the position of the following signal

Hi Squirrel, The Taurus locomotive sounds that way because the Siemens engineers designed it to sound just like that, which later came a very famous sound ;-) Also the other Siemens rail vehicles have their distinct sounds from the traction motors like the Siemens Velaro high speed trains.

Hi Squirrel, Nice vid as always, but a couple of wee points: You are right about splitting the load between locos front and back to reduce the load on the couplers, but it is the coupler at the front which is under the most strain when accelarating with no rear engine, the front coupler is pulling the entire train, the back coupler is only pulling the final carriage. Secondly, please call routes routes and not scenarios, a scenario is the trip along the route, erm, which is the route! You tend to call scenarios scenarios (good!) and also call routes scenarios (not good and sometimes confusing!) Anyway, keep up the good work!

Except (as Squirrel pointed out at 9:15) they never really do release it as a new game, just a different bundle of dlc for the same platform. Each DLC is actually a lot of content compared to the same amount of money spent in FSX. Even then you don't have to buy it to receive the incremental updates. And they've breathed new life into FSX than ever before. They fixed as many legacy issues as possible without rebuilding the game, and more devs are making money by getting their product to more people through Steam. The fact that they have focused their efforts on not only a brand new train simulator platform, but also a new flight simulator says to me that they care enough about sim fans (and of course our money, but you've gotta be kidding if you thought they were in business to give this stuff away) for me to personally not be worried one bit about it. I don't like the pricing, and especially despise some of DTG's reluctance to fix certain bugs (looking at you Donner Pass), but who else would you rather have develop the next Flight Simulator besides a dedicated sim developer? Be thankful it's not EA, Ubisoft or the like.

6:25 The Signal is differnt kind of approach signal. The picture it showed meant that the next signal is a speed limit drop. If it would have been 90° then it would have meant stop at the next main signal and if it would have been up (45° angle) it would have meant signal is green. Also 6:00. You were correct. 2 Greens 1 Yellow means 60km/h at the next main signal. 2 Yellows and 1 Green would have meant 40km/h. 2 Green as expected next signal is green and 2 yellows same story. Next signal red. 6:40 And for main signals: 1 Green. Proceed normal track speed, 2 Green Preceed at 60km/h, 1 Green 1 Yellow would mean continue 40km/h and red of course means stop.

The motor on this vehicle is called or similar to a German made SIEMENS-powered GTO-VVVF traction which makes this tune when accelerating and decelerating. I know this because in Japan we used to have the same motor on the Keikyu 2100 series. It has been replaced though in March 2015 which sadly doesn't make this tune anymore.

the thing with track speed is, the line speed does not change. there is only a speed limitation, if you change tracks. so there is no sign, but the signals are indicating it. also, the sound from the taurus is intended to be a octave (i think). source: austrian.

Hi Squirrel. This scenario is poorly calibrated from the time standpoint. I initially played it using AFB like you did and kept getting dinged on timeliness to the extent that by the time I reached the final station, I have lost enough points to effectively fail he scenario. I played it again and this time kept the speed as close as possible to the speed limit (+- 0.5 kmph) and yet I kept getting dinged on timeliness. Other than speeding like a demon, I don't know what else I could've done. I don't think there is ANY slack built into the times and even that I close to the speed limit, I kept seeing my ETA going up. I only somehow managed to get a successful complete. Its nuts!

That music sound is afaik not intentional. German wiki says: It occurs in the three-phase motors when power is given to the power converters. The audible sound is twice the frequency of the pulse width modulated inverter, which is raised in several steps. (I am just translating what it says in German wikipedia, don't ask me what any of that means) The "old" generation of Taurus (Siemens ES64U2 locomotive) does have this sound feature, the newer ones ((Siemens ES64U4) don't. A similar sound "phenomenon" occurs with the first 2 generations of ICE trains. Although it is not quite as loud and perfect as it is on the Taurus. ICE 1 departure sound: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oKdlYMmAmZ3Reps.html Taurus departure sound: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a-B0nreHq7KaYZs.html Little Bonus: The Taurus has of course 1 motor per axle, so what happens to the sound when a heavy freight train is setting of in slippery condition and it stats to struggle for traction, power to slipping axles is reduced and increased again by the Computer to prevent wheelslip. As a result the sounds of the 4 motors get out of sync and you get sort of an "orchestra". kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hLp-m6qD39OngXk.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n7OJpLp506udp6s.html (from inside a cab)

I thought this was supposed to be Unity on 2017? Oh well. I hope the beta is open. I'd like to see how it's coming along from you. - Anyway, the acceleration and deceleration reminded me of the movie Encounters of the Third Kind. - You speaking of those grindy games had me thinking. I understand it the theory, but there's a fine line between improving and tedious. I generally don't mind grinding (I love rpgs), but sometimes companies just utterly fail and make it really boring and tedious. - 34:30 The hill on the left. In the snow. Good luck with that! - Sorry for wall of text. So many thoughts in an hour long video. Great vid. The level four difficulty one looked interesting from what I saw briefly. ;)

There is 1major difference in flightsimming and trainsimming flight sim u get the entire world to play with yes u have the option to buy DLC for aircraft and scenery trainsim u have a hand full of free scenarios then once bored with them u are forced to buy DLC otherwise the game is exactly what u did before flightsim DLC is optional and no 2flights are identical so u have a choice to buy scenery if u want it or fly somewhere else u can't drive ur train somewhere else unless u get DLC I think that's why people have an issue with it the fact u are forced to buy with trainsim.
@squirrel
@squirrel 7 жыл бұрын
Well what are you actually getting with flightsim? Sure, you have the ability to fly anywhere in the world but it looks nothing like the real world. Out of the box you get basic auto-gen scenery, strips of tarmac for runways and very poor scenery meshes. Add to that clouds which look like cotton wool balls, default aircraft which are pretty basic at best and what you have actually bought is the beginnings of a flight simulator.
@keithhynan393
@keithhynan393 7 жыл бұрын
and that's the same as buying DLC to play a game?I'm sorry Paul but the argument is flawed for some1 starting out in flightsim there is a heck of a lot of default content not so with trainsim which I do like BTW but once I played through the scenarios that came with 16 I uninstalled game if u look at FS2004 and FSX people are still using them after how many years?again my point DLC is optional for these if u want to improve ur graphics and aircraft then yes u need DLC but if you want to drive a different route in TV then u have no choice unless u can get to grips with the very difficult editor that comes with it
@keithhynan393
@keithhynan393 7 жыл бұрын
if u look at both sims out of the box no DLC sure TS looks better but it's a new sim it would want to it definitely does not run any better than any FS,performance is awful for the size of the map it has to render?don't think any1s could disagree with that but out of the box TS is DLC heavy u cannot decide to keep playing because the content is not there sure default scenery in FS is not great but if u can live with that u can fly anywhere and play for years without the need for DLC.
@Acc3ssViolation
@Acc3ssViolation 7 жыл бұрын
keith hynan that's just the nature of the game. A flight sim can get away with fairly simple and auto generated scenery because you don't spend a lot of time up close. When driving a train trough an area you obviously need a lot more accurate detail, so that takes a lot more work to make. And yes, that translates into most routes being payed dlc, but there are a few free ones on sites out there. They tend to require dlc for models and stuff that are used in them though.
@squirrel
@squirrel 7 жыл бұрын
Keith, I understand your point about DLC for TrainSim. Dovetail makes its money by selling DLC for the base game. They also provide an editor which can be used to create more content. You may find it difficult to use but also remember that a number of third party developers (e.g. Just Trains) build more purchasable content using that editor. Also, the Steam Workshop has lots of free scenarios built by the community which you can play for free. As for FS2004 and FSX, yes people are staying playing them ... with hundreds of pounds of additional add-ons and scenery which they purchased over the years. No one is playing it as it was originally shipped.

@Squirrel. So it appears that Twitch has made a change to the site that prevents us from viewing your profile (it now redirects to your actual live screen). Which prevents us from viewing all of your past videos. I have confirmed this on other Twitch channels, and that makes me very sad. What say you Paul?
