Its a water tender. The diesel turbine engines used those old steam engine tenders for fuel, but after they were retired from that, 844 and 3985 use them for extra water on long excursions.

The Second Tender Used to be for the UP turbines, but after retirement, the turbine tenders were converted to water tenders for the UP 844, 3985, And other UP Excursion locomotives.

4449 Starred in a movie, participated in the american freedom train, and was deemed the most beautiful train in the world. Thats how 4449 is such a famous locomotive. 844 Is Famous for reaching 120MPH, and for never being officially retired from the roster. The UP Challenger is Famous for being such a strong locomotive and some other feats that the Big Boy achieved.

It's a UP Auxiliary Water Tender car that holds just water for the locomotive for extra water when UP 844 goes out on Excursion trips around the US and the tender here is off from UP Turbine Engines. Today the water auxiliary tenders they use now are from the early FEF class northern steam locomotives, as for the other two (that are from the UP turbines) there in need of a rebuild & restoration.

The 844 once shoved an 11,620 ton freight train up a hill with some of its train behind. The freight stalled when three diesels could not pull it up a hill

Auxillery Water Tender. Usually used to increase the distance of the locomotive. Sometimes used if there are not very many adequate water sources. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think these tenders were used to hold Bunker "C" oil for Gas-Turbine Electric locomotives. (Third Generation.)

Exactly correct sir! 844 uses a couple of water tenders that were converted by Wasatch Railroad Contractors from the oil tenders that were part of the GTEL 3rd Gen sets.

1:37 - 2:14 same with the Flying Scotsman's tenders; One is a Coal Tender., other is a Water Tender (Scotsman's tender was more or less a corridor tender that had the coal bunker altered to hold water). So that tender is a Water Tender

It used to be an oil tender for the desal terbines but because up doesn’t use terbines anymore they use their oil tenders as agsilery water tenders

It's a water tender. 3985 used it for oil and water, so does 844, but 4014 would be oil firing to be restored. Then it would have a water tender too.

The reason why daylight is the most known steam locamotive because its one of the last loco of the fallen flag Southern Pacific and very little number was made

Actually, the most known steam Locomotive made was LNER A3 no. 4472 "Flying Scotsman". Being the last LNER A3 and the first vehicle officially recorded at 100MPH.

*01:56* Auxillary water tender used by Gas Turbine ELectric (GTEL) engines. Before Union Pacific scrapped their GTELs, they kept that extra tender for other stuff.

Many USA railfans really love 844 including me but do you LazerJet know that 844 is actually nicknamed the Living Legend? because unlike other steamers, 844 was the ONLY steam engine to never be retired be service

UP 844 was designed to run on coal and water but was later converted to run on oil. So the yellow fuel tender behind 844 is an oil tender

Brendon_up1995 844 was an fef-3 which was delivered stock as an oil burner. The yellow tender is purely an auxiliary water tender

The 2nd Tender Holds Water. Since there are no more water pumps anymore railroads/tourist railroads use a auxiliary Tender that holds water.

Locos like the 844 & 4449 are from companies that operated in the Western United States where there are big fire dangers and not like the east coast where fire dangers are relatively low, and west coast engines are powered by oil and water so no accidental fire is caused by burning hot coals.

The reason they liekly didnt finish it is because you didnt let them accelerate alot. It needs to be redone, without braking, and full throttle.

To tell the difference between Big Boy and the Challenger look at the wheels big boy is a 4-8-8-4 while the Challenger is a 4-6-6-4
