I highly recommend the Western Lines of Scotland, a route between Carlisle & Stranraer via Dumfries and the old Port Road as it was between 1963-1965. Comes with some Black Fives, MK1s, and several pieces of freight stock with an enormous list of realistic and engaging scenarios that cover a host of tasks like shunting around Carlisle, taking a boat train from Stranraer, to hauling the Thames-Clyde express. The route is a few years old but it hasn't aged a bit in my opinion and I consider it the best overall steam-era route for TS2020, even compared to the classic S&D or the Riviera Line in the Fifties.

I seriously MUST point out that I personally just suddenly recently recall seeing the well-known steam-driven railway tender locomotive known as Leander in the officially well-known Great Britain section of my own official DVD that's basically titled The Best of World Steam with narration by Peter Fairhead himself that the well-known Settle & Carlisle route is a specifically wonderfully great 72 miles long!

nice one Sam I had a very short footplate ride on Leander back in the 70's. We visited the old Steamtown museum at Carnforth when the place was still open to the public. Leander was based there and when we went she was being readied for a trip over the S&C. I watched her being coaled and got chatting to the crew. They said the coaling was nearly done and the next move was about 200 yards through the line to the turntable, and would I like a ride!! I was about 15 at the time and wan't going to turn down a chance like that, so I stood at the back of the footplate (more like the tender fall plate) abd rode her to the turntable where I watched her being turned. An Amazing experience. Its one of the reasons theJubilees are my fave LMS locos Thanks for stirimg u[ a very happy memory JON

I just got this game yesterday and it was so fun XD! I build my own railway took me 45 days to make it finally it’s done I test it out tried some steam engines and some other shunting and loading and other pulling coaches It was fun I played for 4 days on my own world so fun I loved it so much And I got addicted to it xD

Hey sam, if you over fill a boiler, it doesn’t stop. Also it will jam your regulator wide open if over filled (it happened to a black 5 in the 80s 😬) water will go into your cylinders and make them explode, so it isn’t too good.....

I was wondering if you made Train Sim videos after I heard you mention it in your 360 video, and needless to say it's pleasantly surprising to see this video! I enjoyed it a lot! This game is definitely on my wishlist

A viaduct is a bridge composed of several small spans for crossing a valley, dry or wetland, or forming an overpass or flyover. The term is conventional for a rail flyover as opposed to a flying junction or a rail bridge that crosses one feature. An aqueduct same kinda thing but it carries water!

Hi Sam, you can't overfill a boiler using the injector as the injectors use steam from the boiler to force water into the boiler, if you fill the boiler full of water there will be no more steam to make water go in. If you are interested simply google the term boiler priming and you should be able to find out as much as you'd like. p.s merry christmas

Great video I have exactly the same problem I can never get the train to stop exactly at the platform.

Just a tip: if you wish to change the starting point of your quick drive scenario, when you load in press CTRL+E to go to the editor and then press the picture of a loco in the top right. This allows you to move trains, edit their destinations, add new trains, ect. Holding Shift and Left Clicking a train will select the entire train, and then you can drag it to another location. Just the very basics of scenario editing, might come in handy one day. 👍

sam the class 450 is an EMU and it runs of DC third rail and that route diddent have third rail so that means that only DMU, steam and dizle trans can run on it the class 450 came with the Portsmouth direct line (my locol line that's why i know so much a bought it) so i had to be the 158 and the jubilee (xcuse my rubbish spelling)

In future you should open the cylinder drain cocks as water will collect in the cylinder and cause hydraulic locks. When you open them nothing will come out until you open the reverser and regulator

Heres some tips from my experience with real railways, You have to keep the cylinder cocks open while youre still and when you turn the first few revolutions. The brake stays on until you put the loco in fowards or reverse gear, then the whistle after the guards permission and then you can open the regulator with gente taps and slowly push it into place but you never put the braked on while youre moving unless to slow down or else the wheels will be damaged. After setting off, you must whistle again to the guard for the second right of way.

You can overfill the boiler, causing priming and in worst cases going solid, but the latter is realy only possible on an engine with an axle pump.

There is a much better, newer and advanced version of the jubilee

Overfilling the boiler will.cause the steam to become damp with the potential hazard of priming of the cylinders with water. That happened to Blue Peter back in 1994. The inexperienced crew overfilled the boiler and managed to prime the boiler resulting in a regulator that jammed open and a massive wheelslip at maximum revs which terminated the valvegear. Ouch.

Sam, Happy Christmas! FYI, viaducts are bridges that carry routes (vias) and aqueducts carry water (aqua). So the routes can be railway or road, and the water can be canals or water supplies. Nice video! Regards, Tom

When one over fills a boiler the injectors will stop and the water is forced through the dry pip into the cylinders and possibly cracking the cylinder castings.

If you over fill a boiler then the engine will prime which is where water is pulled from the boiler into the cylinders. If you don’t open the cylinder drains the cylinder will hydraulically lock which can lead to the cylinder exploding or if you do open them it sends showers of water everywhere and stops a seal from forming round the piston decreasing the power of the loco till the water is cleared I hope this explains what happens helpfully

Hey Sam just to answer your question if the boiler was overfilled it could warp the tubes baffle plate and tube plate to the point where It could actually break the welds the most common eventuality is the tubes cracking and flooding the fire

My father was a railway driver for 47 years. He could drive 28 different engines. He would have found this interesting. A version from 2001 I bought for him he said didn't respond realistically.

Hi Sam, information time. I think you'll find that the loco name "Leander" is pronounced "Le-an-der", while, the consequences of over-filling the boiler would at leased cause "Priming." Water coming out of the safety valves, scalding anyone it landed on, up to and including terminal damage by hydraulically locking the cylinders and possibly bending a connecting rod or three. Yes it's a three cylinder locomotive. Along with this you would probably receive your P45. Good video though. Good luck and a Merry Christmas. Regards, Alan.

Not sure if somebody beat me to this comment, but yes, you can definitely overfill a boiler or 'Prime' the boiler as it's called. One of the most important aspects of firing an engine is keeping the water high enough to cover the firebox crown, but not so high that it carries through the regulator steam pipe and into the cylinders... if your driver isn't paying attention and doesn't open the drain cocks in time, you can end up blowing the ends of the cylinders off... As a fireman I also have to be aware of upcoming gradients, if it's a down gradient and my water is too low, I could expose the firebox crown, if it's an uphill and the water is too high, I could prime the engine... so there are times when the water level looks right, but then the track conditions lead to it being too high or too low. Sadly there are no preventative measures on a locomotive boiler because the water sloshes about too much for them to work. You only know something has gone seriously wrong when either a plug gets dropped in the firebox and steam pours through the fire hole doors (in which case, stop the train and drop the fire) or you hear a loud bang as one of your cylinders bursts (in which case, stop the train, drop the fire and make some very embarrassing phone calls)...
