IIts a nice run with a 37 and full length passanger train going over Woodhead not long before the routes total closure
This route is poorly designed in places with many signals being incorrectly positioned and the wrong way round.
Sloppy route design lets this route down and as usual with train simulator, its not properly optomised. I suspect the designers simply can't be bothered to get simple things such as the position of signals right. They have never bothered with optimisation.
Such a classic route as this deserves so much better treatment than these route designers will ever give.
Its pretty obvious that can't even be bothered to test the route.
In real life the route had extremely conservative speed limits imposed. The banked tracks were way ahead of their time. Sadly, a line limit of 70mph was imposed which makes one wonder why they even bothered to bank the corners for high speed only to impose unduly low limits.
There are many parts of the route that can easily accomodate 90mph, or more.
Transport secretary Barbara CAstle was determined to close the route to passngers throughout her tenure. Finally she concluded in 1968 that the line was socially unnecessary. This was only one year after she had concluded that it was socially necessary. What changed in a year to make the line socially unnecessary and who got to Castle and her assistant, Shirley Williams.
What was CAstles reward for closing down so many lines. She was made a baroness. He who pays the piper. Who pulled her strings? It wasn't the people she was elected to serve.
