This is how the North Tyne looked prior to it being removed from the British Railways Network and becoming the Tyne and Wear Metro.
South Shields station has sadly been demolished and replaced by an anonymous concrete building. Progress?
In this video the 15.00 South Shields to Newcastle train is operated by two class 101 DMU trains. They are liveried in both BR Green and Blue. At this time all rolling stock was being repainted.
BR were continually complaining about a lack of funding. But they appeared to have plenty of money to waste on needlessly repainting the entire fleet. Thus making their losses even greater and creating a non existent reason for making even more service cuts.
Our railways have been mismanaged for decades.
