I hope you like it. Not the best Video ever but
still good enough for a lyric video.
Of course available in HD (1080p)!
So here's the song text once again:
Travelling north, travelling north to find you
train wheel beating, the wind in my eyes
Don't even know what I'll say when I find you
Call out your name love, don't be surprised
It's so many miles and so long since I've met you
Don't even know what I'll find when I get to you
But suddenly now, I know where I belong
It's many hundred miles and it won't be long
It won't be long
it won't be long
it won't be long
Nothing at all in my head to say to you
Only the beat of the train I'm on
Nothing I've learnd all my life on my way to you
Only our love that's over and gone
It's so many miles and so long since I've met you
Don't even know what I'll find when I get to you
But suddenly now, I know where I belong
It's many hundred miles and it won't be long
It won't be long
it won't be long
it won't be long

I had a lover who lived at the other end of Germany. I was living in the mountains , he was living by the sea. Trains were our saviour. We were counting the days until we could meet again. Train stations became symbols of longing and love. And losing it, when we both realized it was over. I still wouldn't want to miss this time, it helped us both grow and i will cherish our love forever, he'll remain a part of me until I die. Appreciate what you have while you have it. And when it's lost, or gone, appreciate that it was yours, even if only for a glimpse of eternity.

Today on 1st September 2023, I finally, found my mysterious song. Back in 2005-2006 , this track was used for a TV commercial..I was a humble , studious and hardworking teenager dreaming about future. Then moved different places around world, but this tune always remained etched in my mind and after trying multiple times I never found the song. I felt bad thinking,i would never know the song. Always wanted to know the lyrics. And today just hummed the song on Google and vola I finally found this beauty...I had tears in my eyes. I dont know what can I call this experience as..But it is surreal.. This song ,the voice of the singer, year 1966 everything seems so perfect that I cant explain this mystery in just words.. Thank God .

Having grown up during the 60's, I have a hard time believing it was written in that decade. It surely doesn't fit in with the music of that time. It feels very contemporary. I loved it the first time I heard it on True Detective.

Stupendously beautiful song. Oddly enough, Vashti travelled hundreds of miles to record her only album (at that time) - well "Iris's song for us" was certainly recorded in Scotland (as was presumably the glorious alternate version), but I love the idea of Vashti in her cart, just mucking about, going at her own pace, and travelling to the place where she'd make , casually, one of the best English folk albums of all time.

My first relationships were on distance. For almost four years I've loved a person who was more than 900km away from me. It wasn't so long ago, so yes, the Internet helped us to meet and contact. But it can't be real if you can't see beloved one right infront of you, if you can't touch them. So the trains were our saviors. Many times a year I traveled by them, back and forth, to meet again and to loose again. One day I found this song and it has become a symbol for me of our relationships, of the whole time period. And when it was over, the song stayed. I regret nothing, I'm not blaming anybody, there are just good memories about something wonderful yet so simple. I think it's good way to live when you keep only good memories about somtheing. At least all we will have in the end are just memories. One of mine is this song.

I play this song every time I make the trip up North to visit my aging mom in Buffalo. Every time I see her she's more bent over, she's slower and her house is more decrepit. The lyrics are perfect, and I think I listen to them just to torture myself because I'm not in a position to take better care of her. "Travelling North, Travelling North to find you"..."Don't even know what I'll say when I find you"..."It's so many miles and so long since I've met you, don't even know what I'll find when I get to you"

Like others, I only encountered this song as the lead-in to Patriot. It’s now years later (after my long-distance girlfriend and I both got Fuck John Wayne baseball jerseys) and I came across it again in reference to Weyes Blood, to remember how beautiful and nostalgic the song and voice are, but from there also how great Patriot was, how absolutely under-appreciated that story line was. Sometimes one-hit wonders are just that: wonders, wonderful.

Who else remembers this from an NFL commercial? I think it was a "the seasons almost underway" kind if promo. I do remember at one point an NFLer in street clothes drops a salmon he just caught because he realizes he's got football to do. It was a good fish! Should have kept it, or released it properly! XD

I remember it pretty well. I’m a Titans fan and remember Vince Young and Bo Scaife being front and center in the crowd of players marching. Weird commercial lol
