This crossing is a bell-only crossing.

@onthegowithmitch3 жыл бұрын
@@NativePride1985 the brakes where in emergency before the collision. I think that was just the shock wave going through the train.
@67malibuman3 жыл бұрын
@@NativePride1985 No I was a locomotive engineer, I operated the train. When it comes to a situation like this, you never put the train into "emergency" (what you heard) until you actually hit something. So now you're saying, why not? Numerous reasons for this. Firstly, at 60mph you're not going to stop in time anyway. Depending on the train, that could take over 1 mile to come to a stop. Second, making an emergency application of the brakes, could result in your train derailing, from in-train forces as the brakes apply. Nasty things happen when you put a train into emergency. Another reason is, if you do attempt to stop prior to hitting something at a crossing, a lot of times they clear the crossing and you are now stopped blocking it and have to inspect your train which means someone has to walk the train to make sure nothing derailed. Train brakes work completely different than car brakes. You can't apply them and then ease off. Once you apply the brake you are committed to that brake until you release it completely. This train would have had two crossings blocked for quite a while after that. Plus when you put your train into emergency, a message is sent to every manager and you will be answering questions. The answer to none of the questions would be that you were trying to avoid hitting something blocking a crossing. Hope this helps.

This happened in Spring Grove Alberta Canada. The crossing has two tracks, one of which has been removed. The video is shot from a vehicle repair company. To the left hand side out of view is a very major road, so the probable error here is traffic was backed up without synchronized traffic signals and he stopped on the tracks. How hard is it to write a useful description for a KZfaq video?

Two corrections, the second track was just added not removed and the repair shop is actually a Ford dealership which is probably where the truck just came from. Used to see this all the time on a very busy piece of railroad. In this area, freight trains were allowed 70 mph. There were also many daily passenger trains on this route. Semis would pull across the tracks with their trailers not clear of the three tracks. Some of these trucks were heavily loaded with large steel I beams or steel rebar. Fortunately, it never happened, but it was a disaster waiting to happen. There would be a good chance of a major derailment if it had. Many of these trains were loaded with hazardous materials such as liquified petroleum gas etc. If it had been one of the many daily passenger trains, the result could have been much worse. Finally a railroad underpass was built there.

300 feet to the next intersection past the tracks on Golden Spike Rd. He was trying to minimize the damage to the vehicles rather than get the hell outta the trains path; which is kinda apparent! It amazes me how many go into stupid mode when the barriers block them in. They'd rather get clobbered by millions of pounds of train then scratch their car!! Know of a security person who, instead of smashing a window to get out of the pickup truck that he crashed on a mainline track, was on the phone with 911, who were telling him to smash the window with his flashlight, for 2 minutes before the train hit and killed him.

You know when the video first started I thought they were stuck but then the truck started to move with no issue and I was like " are you serious"?! they clearly got fined, fired and had their lisence taken.

Do you loose your license for a car accident? Not usually, this guy is probably looking for a new job to pay for that huge fine though.

To be fair, at least there was 2 cars damaged and some minor trailer damage. It could've been a lot worse but It shouldn't cost more than a job and 300K.
