Ethanol Train Flying Past Railroad Crossing With 3 Different Competitors Locomotives Including Kansas City Southern Railroad DPU Shoving The Rear! 7 CSX & Norfolk Southern Railroad Trains In Carlisle And Miamisburg, Ohio. Ohio's Tallest Indian Mound With View From Top! Abandoned Railroad Sidings & Power Plant Demolition Next To 5 Track Railroad Crossing.
The covered bridge in this video was discovered by chance. I was helping a friend of mine who is moving and on the way to Carlisle from Oregonia, Ohio I took the shortest route and just happened to go through the covered bridge. I know nothing about it but would love to have some information.
Right when I arrived in Carlisle a short Norfolk Southern local switching train was approaching the railroad crossing heading towards Dayton, Ohio. I was very lucky to get that because if I had got stopped at one more red light I would have missed it. The NS track here doesn't get anywhere near as many trains as the single track CSX line that parallels it for a short distance. I usually only see one or two NS trains on this line when I spend an afternoon here. On this day I got 3 although two of them were short locals.
At this same railroad crossing only two minutes after the NS train passed, I got lucky and got a southbound CSX ethanol train on the Toledo Sub. This train has rival power from 3 different railroad companies. Canadian Pacific Railway is leading and BNSF is right behind it followed by a Kansas City Southern Railroad DPU. Yes, I am familiar with the merger but it is still 3 different paint schemes with none of them being CSX. When CPKC runs that special steam train across their system next year you can count on me chasing it.
The ethanol train was booking because just a couple miles down the track was the next train waiting in a siding. We see this train going north past me and picking up speed. This is a unit steel coils train. Most of the cars are empty but some have steel coils on them. Since most steel coils trains pass southbound through here can anyone tell me why some of these cars have steel coils on them going north?
Then I went over to see the power plant. This is an old coal burning plant in the process of being removed. The area is going to be redeveloped. I could hear some loud booms while I was across the road. Notice the men with cutting torches. No trains passed here so I went back to Union road.
Right when I get there again we see another short Norfolk Southern local. It is heading railroad westbound. Shortly after that we see a CSX northbound mixed freight.
I had a friend with me who isn't a Railfan so I decided to show him the tallest Indian mound in Ohio. This mound is between Carlisle and Miamisburg. It is the Miamisburg Indian Mound. Look how tall it is! 65 feet tall and you can see the CSX trains from up there. You can also see the power plant from up there. What a view!
Then I go back to the 5 track railroad crossing across from the power plant and catch a CSX southbound train headed to Queensgate Yard in Cincinnati. We take a close look at the 1929 rail at the abandoned coal sidings before heading back to Union Road in Carlisle.
The last train is a Norfolk Southern westbound mixed freight. Don't forget to see the pets and the slide show at the end of this video. Happy Birthday to Barbara Thompson and Roger R! I hope you see my shout outs in the video.
Filmed Wednesday, November 1, 2023 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!

Here we are in today's videos it was almost like Harvest Time with everything from the lowly local to commodity consists and the all encompassing General freights. From on top of the Indian Mound built by hand it was a final resting place that centuries later looks upon a man-made building on its death bed. Oddly no Intermodal today but nice as if on command the CSX appears on the little used line. The last shot at the "roundhouse" has Brandy. "Ì'm tired" Loki "I didn't do it" and Chessie. "That new dog is trying to take over my territory" Gotta luv 'em!

If they demo this one like the one near me, they cut pieces out of the I-beams all over the superstructure to weaken it and implode it with explosives. They then cut it to pieces with a shear on a trackhoe.

Wow, that second train really is booking. That third train on the CSX line looks like trains that come through Troy on the CSX line. I see alot of the same engines on a regular basis. That old power plant is very cool. I toured that plant back in the day while it was in operation. Hutchings Plant. It was HUGE in the day. That is a very active location you are at. On that CSX Toledo line, we average a train about every 20 minutes. It's very busy. That mound is very cool. I've seen it many times but have never been op the top of it. I'm definitely going to go there now. WOW that view is GREAT. Just look at that beautiful artwork on those trains. going so fast you can hardly see it.. Love those old rails. Inland is a huge name from the past. I love the recaps and the dogs at the end of your videos. This is one of my favorite videos. GREAT job.

These guys were movin' & groovin'. Unlike Pittsburgh last night... I swear there was a stop order. AVR short line was stopped gonig north on Allegheny river. N.S. in parallel route was stopped about a mile behind it near Pittsburgh. CSX was stopped on the bridge near convention center downtown, and another N.S. on the south shore of the Monongahela on the old Conrail line was sitting... All within 10 minutes I saw these. I wonder what was going on that everyone was stopped.

You had a particularly good railfanning day in the Carlisle and Miamisburg, Ohio area on 1 November 2023, Jaw Tooth! You caught several locals in this video. I am still amazed that SD40-2s are being used as engines on local trains. The demolition of the closed coal fired power plant is progressing. I wonder how long it will take to bring the building down. I hope that the demolition of the chimneys goes better than the demolition of a chimney of a coal fired generating station on the near west side of Chicago, Illinois. The demolition company in that case demolished the chimney and spread soot and dust all over the nearby residential community. The people in the community were outraged! That Native American burial in Miamisburg, Ohio is imposing. I wonder how long it took the Native Americans to build that mound. I enjoyed this video.

Great Vid! someday i would like to go up on some tall structure and see nothing but horizon for the full 360 degrees of view. like you showed us from the top of the Indian Mound. that was Great to see! here in South OC of So Cal even being on top of a 20 story building there is only about 170 degrees of horizon view and most of that is the Pacific Ocean. the rest of the horizon is blocked by a couple of mountain ranges. so far i have only lived here and have never had the chance to live in the Flat Lands of the USA where there is nothing blocking the horizon. when I do, i really think it will be a strong emotion for me and make be feel odd that there is NOTHING to look at in the far distance. no snow capped mountains at times for about 120 degrees of that view. I know that the reverse was true for a visitor to my home a few decades ago who just could not get enough of all the mountains to one side and the Pacific to the other. having lived her 40plus years in the Flat Lands. she cried some seeing both of these views at the same time for the first time when i took her to the top of a 20 story building. Maybe some day if you get back to that Mound take a little more zoomed in and slower 360 pan of that awesome view for all of us who cannot get to such a location. maybe catch a train at the same time in the shot. thanks for all your great vids and time you take to get them. db

Awesome! I just caught this in time. I am working on a video of Cincinnati Eastern Railroad that I filmed Friday evening and I will put a happy birthday shout out to you in it when the train gets to the first railroad crossing. Happy Birthday!
