I watch your You Tube Videos and saw your wonderful Bengal cat Harness. I purchased your Outdoor Bengal Houdini Harness 3 weeks ago, but my first time putting it on my cat ( named Yams) was a somewhat scary and stressful experience for Yams. I did everything you recommended . I set the harness in Yams bed in our living room. Yams was purring and laying on my chest when I buckled the harness on him. He did not seem to mind or notice the harness for the first 10 minutes. *But when I took Yams outside for the first time in the harness, Yams became very scared. He ended up going back in our home and hiding under the bed. He came out from under the bed soon , lay down briefly on the floor next to me while I took the harness off. Then he ran under the bed and would not come near me for 2 days! 🥲 I was worried that Yams thought I was not as trustworthy as before the harness experience. But after 3 days of trying to speak gently to Yams and not attempting to pick him up, things blew over. But I am hesitant to put the harness on him again after the first attempt. See, 2 months ago, I noticed an 8 month old regal kitten living in the parking lot of my hotel while I was away on a work trip. Hotel was near apartment complex , and I feel someone purchased him then abandoned him. Guests and staff at hotel would show him affection and inconsistently give him food. Everyone liked him, though he was cautious. He was sleeping on the roof of the hotel and would let one hotel staff briefly pick him up. Despite earlier humans not being reliable , this beautiful kitten who I later discovered after I adopted him was a Bengal Cat . I was led to research cat breeds with amazing athletic ability, long full tails, back lags that are longer than the front legs, and distinct marbled patterns on their backs after I had successfully incorporated Yams into my home. Yams is very loving rescue Bengal. He sleeps on my chest, or my husband’s at night. Yams has been gentle and incorporated well with my 2 small dogs. But needless to say, he was a cat who was easily afraid and jumped when a car started. I have owned cats my whole life, but honestly was completely ignorant about the Bengal Breed. But there were ere were many exceptional qualities to this parking lot cat. However it took me 4 hours to play with him with toys, give him cat treats and coax him into my hotel room. I know Yams wants to go outside. He first tried to file in line and go out with my dogs and my husband when the dogs took bathroom treks to our backyard. That is why I purchased your harness. Now several weeks after the one negative harness trial, Yams goes over all by himself to our back door and he swipes at the bells we mounted on a large ribbon to ring them! Yams is imitating our dogs saying he wants to go outside! (Years ago when got our dogs, we put the bells on the ribbon next to our back door. Our dogs walk over and ring the bells with a paw when they want or need to go outside.) But we live near a street with traffic and it is not safe to let Yams outside without a harness. Do you have any suggestions for me to allow my former stray parking lot Bengal Cat , Yams, go safely outside? Should I put your harness on him again and let him wear it inside for several weeks first? Would a softer coat like harness be better first inside, before moving up to your harness indoors, then outdoors on your harness much later? ( I truly feel the fit and design of your harness is the safest design for a Bengal cat.) Or should I put any harness on the back burner for now, and say invest in a secure Catio for Yams? I am thinking “outside” is possibly both very appealing to Yams but also bringing up a kind of Cat PTSD ( post traumatic stress disorder) to be outside and on a harness(?) Possibly when he lived in the hotel parking lot, it was so stressful and frightening for Yams and he had to be constantly on his guard to survive , that the containment of a harness in when outdoors makes him feel very vulnerable (?) Thanks for your time!

This is so helpful! I'm in the process of introducing my cat to harness and leach and she's sooo anxious. She hates being held or when I restrict her movement so I've been having a lot of trouble with the harness part, but I think this might help!

one of my cats is also 7 and quite obese. luckily he's evaded severe health complications so far, but I've started to get really worried as he's gotten older. you comment gives me hope that this could work and help him.

@@ErieRosewoodfocus on a wet food diet then transition to a raw food diet! Will cut the weight help him a lot. You want to avoid diabetes

This makes so much sense. Taking them out on a leash reduces most of the risks but gives the benefits of outdoors.

So glad I found your channel! I have 3 cats and the one I just rescued used to be a (part-time) out door cat & I know he misses the out doors! My son was trying to talk me out of getting him a harness but now I can show him your channel so to squash his concerns! 😁👍

You can do it! You'll see that they can get used to it rather quickly. Also, try to avoid rush dog hour! that will make even a greater impact in her comfort! :)

Thanks so much for sharing your experience! I am not a fan of leaving cats wander on their own, it's safer for them and the ecosystem to leash walk them, I'd encourage you to keep doing that if you have the time!
