Grazing muzzles are not just about eating too much. The number one cause of laminitis is metabolic disorders, which is typically triggered when sugars and starches reach the hindgut quickly, in "large" quantities. This can also happen with young, healthy horses during a bloom in the grass, much like breaking into the feedroom and triggering laminitis, and sometimes colic, too. When a horse can safely graze with a muzzle, they are given exercise, socialization with the herd, and all of the other things that come with grazing. In fact, science tells us that horses in muzzles walk MORE than horses not wearing them. Grazing muzzles exist as a way to help horses by acting like a wearable hay net. Nothing more.
