They do. This is from 2010 I believe.

In NSW they all are issued with Bullet Proof Vests, But they are kept in the trunk/boot of their car. Now officers are issued with a Load Bearing Vest which is a stab proof vest after a officer was stabbed in the back at a train station.

Just be aware no vest is bulletproof/invincible. There are cop-killer rounds of various types and some medieval weapons still used for hunting that will go through them. Add to that the material used is degraded over time with sweat.

it can be left or right, sometimes even leg holsters, they can put the holster where they need it

What type of an idiot comment is it that 'You shouldn't have to defend yourself with a knife anywhere!' ? It comes from the need to keep everyone un-weaponized .. no matter what the circumstances are. Since when are public situations innocent and always benign?. At the same time ... all weapons must be handled properly and deployed only when necessary. Crimes of opportunity depend on police being absent and the victim unable to defend ... i.e. female or handicapped or grey haired.

@@reez1728 Interesting sniper comment. There are the Russians who instantly killed their own policeman because he rested his hand on his sidearm during a diplomat parade. There are the Chinese who murder millions and millions of their own people if they believe their 'ideas' threaten the anti-god single party control. And the list goes on and on and on. American is a label but the people are diverse. If humanity would do what its loving creator wants it to do there would be no need for much of the police and military. Message from Garabandal, Spain indicates what we can expect [to an extent] in the future. Our job is to become loving individuals in His image and get a positive deployment in eternity. Currently, love includes defending the family from all comers when necessary ... including those power grabbers who moon the source of their very existence.

@reez1728 I'm Australian, but I can sorta see his/her point. I mean it's not everyday you're going to have to carry a weapon to defend yourself unless he lives in an area with dangerous blokes. Or maybe he's just paranoid 🤷‍♀️
