None that I have personally held in my hand, which means I've encountered some that didn't excite me for various reasons, at least not in curriculum format.

This just looks so incredible! Thank you for the review. This seems like it would be a great class for a co-op. Would you say that a full lesson could be completed within 1 hr with a smallish group of kids, maybe 5 or 6 or them? Also, I’m not sure if I missed it but what was the age range again? Thank you so much as always!

Oh for sure with a group that size, prob under an hour . Target range is k-8, but with the older learners more in a leadership role for this level.

I'm curious about the nonverbal communication part... Does it suggest anything about how making eye contact is important, or mention that lack of eye contact is disrespectful? I'm hoping not, and that it's written in a neuroaffirming way. Could you elaborate on that mission please?

Hi, I completely understand your question, as both of my kids are autistic, and forceful language or directions wouldn't work for them either. The lesson you're referring to isn't truly about eye contact, at least as I interpret it (being ND myself). It's more about body language and how "campers" and camp staff can find it confusing. The lesson simplifies body language, as messages without words. In the video component, she demonstrates and discusses how our body communicates, sometimes more than our words. For example, she says, "I’m fine," with happy body language and asks, "Do you believe me?" Then she changes her body language to appear more distressed and says, "I’m fine." She demonstrates how our bodies and words can often mismatch. She shows several kids expressing emotions like sadness, fear, and happiness only with their bodies and asks the kids to join along. She mentions different types of body language but focuses on the face and body for this exercise. In the story, one camper is asked to go first for an activity, and their body language includes crossing arms and rolling eyes, showing annoyance or hesitation, despite verbally saying something different. One of the charts in the lesson is about "kind eyes." The goal is to understand the messages we transmit and how our face and body can communicate a lot. It mentions rolling your eyes in annoyance or giving a cruel wink (no idea what that is!). Unkind body language in this scenario may hurt others' feelings, such as looking bored while the camp leader is speaking. One group challenge is to demonstrate five kind and attentive eyes within a set timeframe. The term "attentive and kind eyes" is used, including smiling and facing the speaker, as part of a game setting, role-playing, or charades game. But only one of the games, the others is showing emotions (I believe that was the charades one, if I remember correctly). This lesson may resonate with some kiddos and not others (or in parts). It's essentially about learning to read others' body language as well. The previous listening lesson discusses different ways to show you're listening, like repeating what the speaker said and not interrupting. It mentions facing the speaker as a way to be a good listener, which some might equate to maintaining eye contact. I personally didn’t interpret it that way, but wanted to mention it. Additionally, some fable stories tied to the lesson might help, my kiddos have never been into fables, they challenged how unrealistic the stories are and never truly appreciated them (as whole, not with this). They are free to access and pre-read. They also recommend reading a picture book about body language and trying it out with the group. I highly recommend printing the sample lesson and testing it out first to see how it’s received before committing to it. It can work well for several families, while for others it might not be the best fit. I hope this helps!

@@HomeschoolMamaJ My pleasure! I tried to imagine what a "cruel wink" might look like, but I came up blank. I even tried it in the mirror-no luck! 😆 I’m sure it’s one of those phrases meant to reinforce gentle language. At least, that’s my guess.
