I went to Beijing and trained for 5 days, one hour every morning. It was really fun, and there was so much footage! This video will cover the work I did on the smash, and what I learned. There will be more to come, hope you enjoy! :)

Been a badminton enthusiast for a long time and appreciate the effort that went into this video. I too once greatly enjoyed the Lin Dan vs. Bao Chunlai video because it was one of the earlier glimpses at the MS GOAT playing in a chill, non-stadium setting, and getting to see his technique from a close up, friendly angle. Keep up the good work, jixunuli!

Finally someone pointed it out! The angle of smashes going downward is due to the contact point! I thought I was losing my mind because no one really ever brought it up before but I always see slo-mo shots of matches where they have the shuttle about 1 ft away from their body as they smash

I know this is a bit old now but I have some food for thought and a tip for you while moving forwards into your badminton evolution. First of all, I actually think it's better when the feeding isn't perfect. You will rarely get a perfect lift in a match and the need to re-adjust to reach the shuttle is a key part of back-court technique training. And ofcourse you don't want super short lifts, lifts that's wide or long. But being anywhere within 1m of the corner allows for the chance of producing good quality shoots, while still forcing you to adjust your positioning and aim slightly. And by the looks of it, you rely a bit too much on your shoulder/upper arm while performing shots. Just remember to not neglect the wrist and try to always be using it to steer/accelerate/control your shots. I'd recommend that you relax your generall grip hold aswell. You seem a bit stiff, and being stiff takes away some touch aswell as having that extra edge/snap on your hard shots. Many people get stuck on "To hit powerfull smashes I must use all muscles and all power I have" But it's more about timing, technique, rotation and the snap from the wrist. Being relaxed also gives the ability to hit really fast drives from out of nowhere. You start a swing, almost like a block/drop and at the end you tense up, accelerate and snap with your wrist. It will give you some extra punch and deception. Works like a charm for backhand drives like the one you did at 7:45. Nice video, will definitely check out all your other content!

Thank you for the video, it has given me a new perspective in how to optimise my smash. one question, 4:48, is that stroke your coach is teaching for smashes or for cut smash or drop. because I'm stuck, trying to figure this out. after your elbow is pointing towards the ceiling, then your forearm would reach up towards the shuttle, then you rotate your forearm, is the wrist in neutral all the way through? also do you pronate your shoulder. Thank you

According to my own understanding, when your elbow is brought up above your forearm/wrist, there is way more range of movement in pronating your forearm as you go through the motion, which is where power comes from.
@Chewyeeeh
@Chewyeeeh 4 жыл бұрын
In layman’s terms the higher your elbow is, the higher your initial contact point will be. Just imagine yourself raising your arm up at different angle, you’d able to reach different height for each different angle.
