Training medical students in Cuba 'exorbitant'

Health Minister Dr Joe Phaahla says it costs more than twice to train medical students in Cuba than in SA.
The country has been sending medical students to Cuba since 1997 under the Nelson Mandela-Fidel Castro training programme. The costs for the training are being carried by individual provinces.
The controversial programme is currently under scrutiny from the DA.
DA MP Haseena Ismail, Wits University's Professor Shabir Madhi, and South African Medical Association's Mzulungile Nodikida weigh in.

Cuban doctors and village doctors. They serve villages and the program should stay. Thank you.

There is no shortage of Drs or nurses, the government is simply not creating the posts to employe them.

Why not build more modeical schools? or expand existing medical schools? usingthe money you are necessarily sending outside?

We can no longer look at just how much it costs to train a doctor in Cuba, but rather how much it costs South Africa to be such a bipolar health care. How much is it for rural citizens who are not fully covered by system policies
