Oh, please do more videos like this! I'm part of an art community and own a fictional stables. It's all for fun, but I've never had the chance to see racing other than the actual race. All of this information is amazing and helps in me making my stable feel more realistic!

I have that same D bit for Market. Except his has a French link. When he canters, he wants to go faster. I use a half halt but he ignores the direction. So I am getting him a Michlem bridle. I still have the chest plate & rubber reins for him. Pretty sure he will need those on the cross country course. Oh Jay love these Storm Cat babies. She is not ready to race. Props to you for changing up the bit. Ty for taking the figure 8 noseband off. That is a very thin bit. I suggest she get some chiropractic work. If she is shaking her head and it's that high. A chiropractor can fix that and her hip needs adjustment as well if she is not catching her leads. Ty for your consideration. Good luck

Aristeia looks a lot more comfortable in the Houghton bit. She's not fighting it, she's going with the flow, so to speak. As you say, she's keeping her mouth closed on her own. Great thing. Sometimes the simpler the equipment on the horse works best. This is not the answer for every horse of course, as each horse is different in the requirements needed to race. So sorry to hear about the tragedy at Santa Anita during the Breeders Cup. My condolences are extended to the owners, the trainer, the jockey and all the support staff that got that horse ready for race day. Best Regards from your friend in Ontario, Canada, Jenn.

Super video, very educational. The average fan and I include myself in that group have no comprehension of the complexity of getting the best out of a race horse. I do like the looks of a number of your horses, most have a good back and length to them. I am not a fan of these chunky quarter horse types, You mentioned you had some good turf horses back in Chicago and I can see that in the types of horses you acquire. Now it is just a matter of time and a little luck. How's the track?

Jay, I'm an old trotting horse man, I grew up around Standardbreds in the '70s. I remember seeing pictures of the Haughton bit without knowing the name of it, guessing that it was a "sidelining" bit of some kind. Interesting to see Thoroughbred horsemen using it. Thanks for posting.

Can we get an update on Aristeia?

Very nice video. That bit kind of reminds me of those old time Indian bits, really simple design. It’s more natural. At first I was wondering if she may really do well with a shadow roll because I see that it could get her to reach out rather than climb up and get her looking forward. Just something she may respond with.

Jay...she is developing beautifully. You want her to stay spunky...have a little fight in her, which she shows. Whats she eatin for grain?? Keep up the great work!!

I always give my jocks the equipment they want in the short run. In the long run I ignore them because they overreact to anything that happens. Today he's got his equipment. Next week--ooops I can't find the equipent, take her out and see how she goes in this.. Suggest taking a look at the expensive Herm Sprenger bits. When I started riding my racers I had good luck with these. They are so comfortable for the horse I never had a horse fight this bit. The middle links are angled so that it fits flad on the tongue. the mouth piece is curved so that it fits comfortably on the bars.

Biting can be such a series of trial and error. I discovered my horse hated anything jangling or moving on the corners of his mouth so loose ring snaffles were a wash. He also would clamp on the bit on one side to keep it still. As a youngster he also tried the high head carriage, but I managed to disabuse him of that notion by using a running martingale for a couple of weeks. It's now an eggbutt and double jointed French link for him. Do you ever use double jointed bits? Or are you limited in what you can do for the track?

I find this very horse unfriendly. These horses are way too young and live very unnaturally for a horse. I feel sorry for them, all horses in the cruel race industry. The mouth opening is because of pain in the mouth, and you add a more painful bit and a nose and keeping her mouth shut.
