See the locos stored at Rowsley yard at Peak Rail including 37310, 50029, 50030, 73138 plus lots more.
Also see the working locos running the 4 miles to Matlock and back.
The video starts with ground based views and a walk around the yard, followed by aerial views providing a wider perspective.
It was raining quite hard at times so apologies for any rain drops on any of the clips.
Hope you enjoy the video! Thanks for watching.

Remember back in the early 70s this was going to be one of the premier lines Matlock-Buxton ,how sad to see it all mostly slowly decaying away

In BR days it was such an interesting railway, just a shame that the line now looks the same as it did some years ago, quiet and like it's not going anywhere. It needs some life pumping into it, desperately needing an ambition to expand somewhere to create more interest in the line, but that's just my opinion. Some nice little gems to be seen though, love that class 47 and I hope the Peak, class 97 ad 50's can get some similar attention one day. Thanks for showing us around.

Yes I agree, I think it has great potential .a shame it can't get the financial & volunteer support it needs to prosper like some other preserved lines get

@@maly2ts408 I agree, it has great potential and needs ambitious plans to stimulate supporters, no plans, no action then nothing changes. For example just look at the success of the GCR reunification plan.

Unfortunately, the majority of this rolling stock will probably never run again? The longer it sits, the more it's going to cost!

The 50s need to be re-sold for main line use,or they will just be beyond repair due to costs

37310 Should be pulled out of there as its languishing away & looks in Fairly Good condition, It should be offered for sale & could be potentially put back into Main Line use, This loco was ex 37152 & was always located in Scotland ( issued to Eastfield) in which it rarely came South of the Border, I travelled to Eastfield in 1976 to see it whilst on a depot visit to the Scottish depot where it was noted with loads of other goodies on shed.

It’s shameful how the 37’s, 50’s and Peak are allowed to just sit there and decay. If they’re are not going to be able to restore or run them then they should sell them to someone who can!

Wonder how Renown Repulse group is getting on with the 50s, when are the NR 73s from SVR supposed to be getting there?

I briefly joined the Peak Rail Preservation Society in 1977. Their stated ambition was to re-open the whole line from Buxton to Matlock. However it was clear right from the start that sadly they were more interested in buying locos than rebuilding the infrastructure.. Now, 46 years later all they have achieved is an isolated stub of track less than four miles in length. When you compare this to the huge accomplishments of other heritage lines over the same period, such as the NYMR, ELR. GCR etc, it's hardly very impressive. If they had relaid just half a mile of track per year they could have easily achieved their original goal by now. A massive wasted opportunity considering the potential income from tourist traffic and local residents needing a quick journey between the two towns.

Indeed a shame - Running any heritage line is not easy at all. Agreed that others have been more successful in that time frame.

The problem is that the section from Rowsley to Buxton runs through the Peak District National Park, who will never grant permission for reopening of a railway line. As a result Peak Rail have nowhere to go.

Its a shame to see so many just sitting there slowly decaying. But not every loco can be saved and restored unless you're a billionaire.

I would expect it will slowly rot away, just like many other heritage lines , big ambitions, no money...they need to sell on items that can be used of other railways and concentrate on just a few..

It’s a real big ask to run these heritage railways without a donor with very deep pockets. Hopefully they can find a way forward to save some of those locos. 🙏
